Felt poorly for 2 weeks with flu type symptoms including a persistent cough. Thought it would gradually ease with paracetamol but 2 weeks in still felt quite unwell. Covid tests were negative. Made a call to the centre to be told no further appointments, this was at 8.00am, and to call back. Being fortunate enough not to need to use the surgery very often and being aware of the frustrations generally of using GP’s at this time I feared the worse. Called back later in the day, spoke to a very nice, polite receptionist and got a doctors appointment over the phone with Dr Andreo the same day. I’d say that was a good result and a good job done. Well done Oldbury Health Centre.
Regret the day I decided to join this surgery! Its been 3 years since I've joined Oldbury health centre as my old surgery closed down. I've never successfully made an appointment on the day I need one, I'm expected to call back every morning at 8am wait in a queue normally around 20-30 waiting before I get through to be told no appointments. Imagine on a school morning whilst getting the children ready waiting on the phone for 45 minutes to be told call again tomorrow. On a previous visit the doctor had asked me to call and book an asthma checkup which i haven't had for 3 years, she advised I needed to do a peak flow test etc so I called for an appointment and yes wait for it "we don't have any" but a nurse will call you in 2 to 3 weeks to do a asthma check up over the phone? I asked how can you do a peak flow test over the phone! Receptionist replied by saying well on the notes say "needs an asthma check" doesn't say anything about a peak flow test so you CAN do it over the phone. It's becoming unbearable now and impossible to deal with Oldbury health centre and I'll be joining a new surgery soon as I am able too which I recommend if you require even a basic level of healthcare, which OHC are incapable of providing. This is just one of many issues as you can imagine with 4 children the amount of conversations I've had in the past especially when they say go to a walk in centre after ringing for an appointment for a 3 year old with epilepsy 4 days in a row, until you raise a complaint or escalate absolutely nothing is done. On one ocassion receptionist told me to call 111 and refused to give me an appointment for my son and after speaking with 111 she was shocked at how they were refusing to give an apppointment for a child who had a potentially fatal epileptic seizure just 5 months ago so she called Oldbury health clinic on our behalf and got us to see a GP straight away. Having family members who are GP's were baffled at why Oldbury health centre were not providing face to face appointments post covid since they had been providing them at this point for over 6 months. Family members in Birmingham had also gone back to usual process post covid offering face to face appointments atleast 6 months before Oldbury health centre did anything. Spoken to doctors in local A&E who explained the impacts of all the patients who are sent to hospital from Oldbury heath centre only increases waiting times for patients and puts further strain on the Nhs which could have been prevented. Trying to keep your physical health at this place has a serious effect on your your mental health, the sooner I stop any interaction with them the better.
I have been signed up at this surgery for just over 4 years, and have yet to have been able to book a single appointment! Told to call at 8am to book, you can phone and phone and phone and all you get is ‘call queues are at capacity, we aren’t able to present your call to be answered, please call back at another time’. If you’re lucky enough to actually get through 2 hours later at 10am, you’re told all appointments have gone and you have to go through the whole idiotic process again tomorrow at 8am! Utter waste of time. Cannot comment on service at the actual surgery as I have never in 4 years successfully passed the ‘make an appointment’ stage. Woeful to say the least.
This place is a joke. Told me that they can’t provide travel vaccines for my 1 year old and that I must go to a selected pharmacy or private clinic however every single pharmacy & clinic has told me no they can’t do it due to his age and that it must be done by our GP. Always shirking responsibility pathetic staff & practice manager just unhelpful & as useful as a 3 legged dog
This isn’t really a review about OHC. But one of their staff members Kayleigh phlebotomist was absolutely great. I took my mother in for a blood test and we were very pleased with the service we received. She carried out the test quickly and painlessly. I’d like to point this out to Sandra who I believe is a manager there. You have a great staff member.
Worst surgery going. Probably one of the only surgeries still doing telephone appointments as first point of call. Calling at 8am and their call queues are full and they just put the phone down on you. All you get is 'We are very sorry' How can lines be at capacity straight away at 8am? Absolute joke. I'm glad to be moving away.
Absolutely joke. Been trying to get an appointment with doctors for the past 2months there saying there isn't anything available. Spoke to a receptionist called Julie she was very rude put the phone down on me twice and refused to help me. This practice should not beopen at all as there don't offer any appiibmnets, the disrespectful staff I would not even rate them zero am waiting in the manger called Ana bentally to call me lets c if she does. Unreliable unprofessional rude horrible staff who doesn't respect there NHS patients.
I have been under there care for over 20 years. I have always received excellent care from all. This is'nt a business, it's a NHS service, under extreme pressure! Really Don't understand these poor reviews. Every GP surgery is under pressure since the pandemic and struggling to have enough appointments for patients. Be kind!
I went for a blood test 3 weeks ago from here. I have been chasing with my GP and it looks like pathology have no record of my blood tests. So either this health centre or pathology have done something with my blood. This is a form of medical negligence and should be looked into. I have no idea what they have done with my blood samples.
I have spoken to one GP Dr Dawson who was so lovely and listened and requested photos. But I am unable to ever speak to him again, as you cannot book appointments for specific doctors. Each GP says different things, no consistency and do not even bother seeing you for a physical ailment. I don’t know how you can prescribe when you don’t even know the situation. And trying to get an appointment is a nightmare. Call at 0800, but you cannot even queue because they are too busy. Today have been trying for 2 hrs and still can’t even get into the queue. I guarantee by the time I can speak to someone they will just tell me to call back tomorrow
