Very solid quality items from ethically made places and people around the world. Sold for high but somewhat fake prices in general, with some good quality local items, such as the cast iron tools. Very well laid out and friendly staff, something that fits perfectly into Oxford.
I would like to fill my house with the things in this shop. Everything is such good quality, and chosen so carefully for a timeless feel. Nothing is too pretty to be unusable, but it all looks so good, as well as being functional. Their customer service is top notch too, they replaced an item that I found to be slightly damaged with no quibbles. I'll definitely make this a regular stop on my visits to Oxford.
High quality, unique items, with excellent presentation. Located next to The Covered Market, near the Radcliffe Camera. Nice garden tools in the back room also.
Objects of Use is not only a modern store, home to a unique selection of everyday household tools conscientiously sourced from around the globe. It is also a gift shop with an original range of products - from children's toys and office supplies, through soaps and shampoos made from environmentally friendly materials, to crockery, garden tools or canoe. Kaizen lovers will especially enjoy the goods from Japan. In my personal opinion, Objects of Use is the best gift shop in Oxford, where you can find a gift for any person, regardless of their age, gender or interests.
Very cute shop full of top-quality products: you will spend longer time here than you expected love this shop
Have purchased several items online from OOU over the years and always been happy with the quality. Recently purchased two expensive umbrellas, one of which bent out of shape almost on first use. Clearly not fit for purpose.Contacted customer services and after my chasing had one reply asking to send photo’s which I have done. Several emails and two weeks since initial contact and no further response. Poor customer service.
All the cool stuff from Japan, Germany, Scandinavia, and E Europe. Mainly hardware and stationery/writing equipment, but also an Aladdin's cave of anything else that catches their eye I guess, like Japanese fishermen wellies with the separated big toe! Or Kaweco brass pens, or Papier d'Armenie incense which is just my favourite ever fragrance at the moment. You both need and will want pretty much everything in store
Objects of Use is an absolute gem of a small shop. Its concept is executed with complete skill, resulting in every stocked Object, large or small, being delightfully consistent in its ability to stand the test of time and provide pleasing utility. Having now moved away from Oxford, I'm grateful that the website is almost as enjoyable to browse as the shop itself. The care with which mail order packages are assembled gives one a further taste or reminder of the in-store experience. Long may the shop stand on Market Street and provide its perfectly curated selection of Useful Objects!
well presented shop but with a daft owner that doesn’t understand how customer service works. the shop does not have baskets or bags to put the items you want to purchase. they expect you to go up and tell them about every small little thing you want OR juggle them in your arms OR go up to the counter and interrupt the clerk and customer transaction happening so you can shove your items down on an already crowded counter all I can say is that as a repeat customer, being told I had never been seen in the shop seemed a bit odd to me to be honest. Well I do not plan on returning again as there are other small businesses I would rather support mainly ones that actually sell local goods, NOT imports!
Place full of wonderful artisan items for kitchen, bathrooms, garden or otherwise; an excellent place to get a gift for someone that has a little extra character than something off the high street. Worth the money and time to peruse!
