Looking at past reviews here, the Council has come under quite some flack with bin collections. I can only share my recent experience with a missed purple bin. I just went onto their website and reported the bin. It was a three day turnaround process. Didn't hear anything for two days so assumed my request was being ignored and brought the bin in. On the third day, the bin lorry turned up and the bin guy came round the side of my house and took the bin out, emptied it, and brought it back to the side of the house. Now that's what I call service over and beyond so good on you, Council bin team. The only reason I'm not giving it 5* is because there was no response to my initial request so none the wiser if the bin truck was coming back. Nevertheless credit is due here and is happily given.
Shocking service since the bins moved to three weekly and changed provider. Operatives just lazy and don’t care about residents. Bin not emptied, CCTV of the lazy operatives driving past and getting out further up the road - they marked as complete and now have to wait another 3 weeks - awful customer service.
I am generally shocked at how poor and the lack of duty of care that was shown towards my homeless application after fleeing threats of violence no duty of care around my mental health and wellbeing were shown at all im vulnerable and this council dont care for people.
General waste bin not collected although out the night before? We were away for a few days and reported it as soon as we returned. Jen from NHDC bin customer service told us we hadn't complained within 48hrs and she didn't have the authority to override it or pass us on to anyone who could, so we should take our rubbish to the local recycle centre or wait until 28th Dec for the next collection. I don't know about you but I certainly don't want 2 weeks of accumulated stinking trash anywhere near my car, let alone in it. Nor do I want 4 weeks of overflowing general waste attracting vermin. We called FCC the contracted bin collectors for NHDC, who were helpful and apologetic unlike NHDC. They have stated they are more than happy to collect our missed bin immediately however require authorisation from NHDC and considering we pay our council tax, we should not have to take our rubbish to the recycling centre. FCC head office are calling me today to resolve what NHDC and sarcastic, unhelpful Jen could not.nI cannot believe NHDC would leave us in this predicament over the Xmas period. I'm guessing Jen has never had customer service training as sarcasm isn't the way to treat paying customers.nPaying for a service you don't receive would annoy anyone. Useless, rude and unfit for purpose!!
Left my bin out Wednesday night for Thursday 6th March morning bin emptying . The bin was left on the pavement outside my house on Woolgrove rd , Hitchin in good view . I came home from work on Thursday afternoon to find that the bin had not been emptied . I phoned NHDC straight away to arrange for them to empty the bin on Friday . I came home from work Friday and the bin still hadn't been emptied . I phoned NHDC again and was told that they were not going to empty it as all the bins had been done . So if this individual in the council told them they were all done , THAT'S IT !!! It doesn't matter if he's wrong or lying .nThere's no doorbell camera that I can use to prove the bin was there on the pavement on Thursday to be emptied , so I asked the council to use the bin lorry camera , they didn't want to know . I'm being treated as the guilty one that has to prove my innocence because of the incompetence of the Hitchin bin men .nI've got nowhere to put my rubbish for the next two weeks because of the disgraceful way the council deals with their OWN mistakes .nThey should be ashamed of themselves .
