As always Good friendly helpful staff PA keeps public well informed when a train brakes down, delayed or “more trains than usual needing repairs for a second time” (their words, not mine). Also there is a postbox on the platform

"NEWTON ABBOT" Rail Station, with long open platforms, sheltered from the rain, of course.....Peaceful, very peaceful at times when you have to alight to change trains late in the evening....Five trains to Plymouth, one train to Paignton....One train terminating and returning to depot.....The usual announcements carry on as the minutes tick by and the temperature drops with only a vending machine of refrigerated soft drinks when you would prefer a hot mug of chocolate.....Enjoy the quietness whilst you can as two opposite travelling trains arrive at the same time and a dozen passengers bundle into the warm waiting room on Platform 1....I tell them that it has been a sunny day here as they describe the cloud in London City....Eight minutes late, the G.W.R. arrives and the staff can once again enjoy the quietness of the chilly, star bright night......"NEWTON ABBOT".....

Very nicely renovated with a smart new Ticket Barrier entrance and new signage. The whole station feels more modern, compared to the old somewhat run down one.

Nice station barring the fact that there is one ticket machine outside the locked ticket office (before 6:10am) and the one outside rarely takes cash. Would be nice to see the cafe open earlier too.
