Nene Valley Railway is a great day out there is lots to do and great value, in fact you can walk round the station and yard totally free of charge. Staff are very friendly and full of information regarding the railway, Train rides are very reasonable price wise. There is a great cafe and gift shop, also for train collectors there is a small shop selling everything from toy trains to railway signs plus charity shop. I took my kids there with no money in my pocket and we had a great time.
Fantastic day out for the whole family. We bought a Family Rover ticket for £55, which covers 2 adults, and 3 children. Various stops to hop off and have a walk, a picnic, or just admire the scenery. We chose to get off at Peterborough, and had a lovely afternoon at the cathedral, and shopping which pleased my 16yo with Christmas money burning a hole in her pocket!. The buffet car sells teas, coffees, hot chocolate, and various snacks at reasonable prices. Staff are really knowlegeable about the trains, and goings-on, and are really friendly. Would definitely recommend.
A family afternoon treat with fish & chips on the train. Great service from all staff, who were friendly, helpful & genuinely happy to be there. Fish & chips were great too. Totally recommend this especially to families. Parking was a little tricky though so allow for time to park before you get on the train. Shops also worth a look, charity shop has good quality things in.
Firstly I’d like to say, every staff/volunteer makes you feel number 1 there. 3 of us had the stone baked pizza & each of us said it was great & just the right size. The guy serving in the cafe was very polite & cleaned our table too. I’d recommend that place even if you don’t take a train ride. I was surprised that this live wasn’t packed for tourists on a bank holiday Monday maybe they all did the morning train, we did the last steam train. It was a beautiful 1959 polish steam engine. There seems to be a lovely change over every so often of steam engines. This place is also dog friendly. Thank you to everyone there. Recommend 100% & hopefully will return. Please support this steam line.
Remember this place from my childhood, and on a whim decided to take my 6 y/o on a last minute visit.. to say he loved it was an understatement. An amazing mix of information, static trains to see and some to climb aboard and watching the trains come and go made his day.. waiting for the weather to change so they can run steamies again as that's his next request to see. Definitely worth a visit again
We have visited many of these steam railways and this has been one of the best. The buildings are so lovingly maintained, as are the trains and supplementary rolling stock - we loved the restored freight train along the tracks! So many places we visit have wagons and locos simply rotting at the side of the tracks, it was lovely to see the opposite done here. The train ride itself was lovely, so many changing vistas through our window - fields growing potatoes, sweetcorn and other crops, rivers, ponds, canals and canal boats, golf courses and lots of fluffy sheep. We broke our journey at the café and enjoyed a lovely lunch in the conservatory area. The apple tart was awesome! All in all a thoroughly enjoyable day. Highly recommended.
A fantastic heritage railway with friendly staff and interesting locomotives. What I would say is surprisingly, they only have 1 rake of 6 coaches which are in regular use, so they can't run a 2-train service unless that rake is split. All locomotives seemed to be well looked after and very clean.
Incredible experience, my train mad son loved the steam engine! Unfortunately the steam engine had a fault so we have to wait 1hour+ to go to the next stop which by then was too late to go to other stops too. The replaced the steam engine with diesel which wasn't as exciting as steam but things happen. Really friendly staff too.
It was a prime experience. We paid 150/compartment for Santa's express. Yes, it's quite a lot of money. Yes, I was nervous when I clicked to pay! However it was one of the things you'd reglet if you "didn't go". Classic compartment was very comfortable and huge. We were a group of 4adults/ 2kids/ a baby. It had more than enough space for all of us, and had a big table to enjoy our picnic. The smell, the sounds, the colours… All of those were really something. It was a great investment for my 4yrs old's life. The gift shop had a lots of hiddem gems as well.
Excellent day out. Very good value for money. Pleasant gentle ride behind a diesel loco in a 1960's railway carriage. We got out at Overton for a walk round. Enjoyed the post office exhibit. Very relaxing. Had a cream tea at Wansford Station cafe. Really good scone and amazing pot of tea.
