The National Football Museum in Manchester is a must-visit for football fans and history enthusiasts alike. It houses an extensive collection of football-related artifacts, memorabilia, and interactive exhibits, celebrating the rich history and global influence of the sport. Located in the iconic Urbis building, the museum covers everything from the origins of football to its modern-day status as the world’s most popular sport.nnVisitors can explore exhibitions on legendary players, historic matches, and key moments in football’s evolution. The museum also offers engaging activities, such as penalty shoot-out games and virtual reality experiences, making it interactive and family-friendly. Special exhibitions often highlight topics like football culture, women’s football, and international tournaments.nnWith its blend of history, culture, and entertainment, the National Football Museum provides an insightful and enjoyable experience for football lovers of all ages. Its central location in Manchester also makes it a convenient and popular attraction.
The National Football Museum in Manchester is a must-visit for any football fan. It’s packed with football history and interactive exhibits that offer a fun experience for visitors of all ages. The museum is easily accessible from Exchange Square or Victoria tram stops, and there are four floors to explore. The first two floors feature a variety of fascinating exhibits, while the third floor is dedicated to interactive games, including a penalty shootout and skills challenges – perfect for kids and adults alike. My 6-year-old had a blast! The top floor houses an art exhibition, and there’s also a shop and café on the ground floor to relax after your tour. Plan to spend at least an hour to fully enjoy everything. Booking tickets online is recommended for a discount. Highly recommend this spot for a great day out!
The National Football Museum was an enjoyable place to spend an afternoon. I joined a guided tour, led by an employee named Phil, and it proved both an insightful and interesting way of experiencing the museum. Phil pointed out artefacts such as Geoff Hurst's match-worn jersey from the 1966 World Cup Final and the original Football League championship trophy.nShort films provided info as I viewed the museum following the guided tour. A couple of the films now need to be updated for example Gary Lineker mentions Geoff Hurst being the only player to have scored a hat-trick in a World Cup Final but Mbappe also did so for France in 2022 but, overall, they were enjoyable to watch and listen to. The museum tells lesser known stories about the sport as well as well told tales.nI wasn't enamoured by most of the contemporary art on the upper floor, where temporary exhibitions are displayed, but there was a terrific Eric Cantona mural.nNor did I play any of the interactive games, such as the penalty shootout, that are available in the museum.nI spent the best part of three hours in this city centre attraction and thoroughly enjoyed doing so. The range and breadth of artefacts on display really did make a positive impression on me.
Do purchase a ticket online for some savings. A good slow view will take you 1hr to complete. Tour is perfect for any football fan that comes to Manchester for a visit.
I absolutely love this museum. It was my first time here. It has all things football soccer history. If you are in the Manchester area, you have to visit this museum. It has a gift shop and eatery. I highly recommend this museum.
