We mix works from our wonderful historic collections with the best international contemporary art to bring fresh perspectives to familiar images, create visual dialogues and encourage conversation and debate. We welcome over half a million visitors each year to our home in the heart of the city, a blend of historic and contemporary architecture that echoes our innovative artistic programme. Through our exhibitions and events, we offer extraordinary encounters with brilliant art.

Explore our collections of fine art, spanning six centuries and including many major modern and contemporary pieces. We are famous for 19th century British paintings, particularly our outstanding collection of Pre-Raphaelite works. Our decorative arts collections showcase the artistry, tastes and techniques of every era and culture, from ancient civilizations to today’s designer makers. Our collections of ceramics, silver, glass, furniture and costume are especially fine. We constantly renew and update our collections displays so you should discover something new every time you visit.

Manchester Art Gallery is a fantastic place to visit, and the best part is that entry is free! If you have extra time, I highly recommend heading up to the 3rd floor, where they offer a free 30 minute private tour of the storage room. It was an amazing experience to see so many paintings all at once. It is truly a hidden gem within the gallery
Beautiful Art works on display. Free access to the public, there are donation boxes. There is a nice cafe you can have a rest and replenish your energy.
It's one of Manchester's many impressive art galleries, and best of all, it's free to enter! While there is some ongoing construction outside, it doesn’t detract from the experience inside.nnEven if you’re not an art enthusiast, this gallery is well worth a visit. The diverse and extensive collection is sure to captivate, with pieces that appeal even to those with little knowledge of art. Take your time exploring—snap photos, listen to expert explanations, watch engaging videos, and immerse yourself in the fascinating world of art. It’s an enriching experience for all!
This is a great place to visit whenever you’re looking to escape the hustle and bustle of city life. The gallery looks small on the outside but its really massive on the inside. It has history from all over the world. There is a cafe and a gallery shop with nice souvenir such as books, candles, postcards etc. The gallery is very peaceful and has a lot of sitting areas on all floors and a “room to breathe” where one could sit and reflect.
Really awesome place, well worth a visit!nnLots of really beautiful art as well as plenty of interactive stuff to do.nnIt's free to get in, but you can donate if you wish.nnThe cafe is decent too!
