Another of my old favourites, the local library not a tremendously big one but warm and friendly none the less. I used to do a lot of reading but I have slowed down quite dramatically over the last few years. I spent as much time as possible on the internet terminals and I also browsed and read books from the non fiction shelves.Church street is famous for its street market and important historical landmarks which lead all the way back to the Doomsday Book. It is a nitty gritty side of London that helps to weave a rich, colourful tapestry of ethnic people, cultures and beliefs which helps to make the city so popular.
The negative reviews written here make so much sense: including the one about the 'short fat guy with glasses' who simply makes absolutely everything so difficult. When not 'helping' at the front desk, he just sits at a desk on the lower ground and reads a newspaper - volunteers are more helpful than him. I wanted to help these people as a volunteer too, yet their 'office politics' is so complicated, you sense this is the reason they are so 2 faced even when you provide the help. Not only that, they do nothing when fat young teens from the nearby estates congregate on the lower ground floor where there are more reading rooms and are so rude to you, just because you are a small woman. Outside, you might meet their older 'brothers' who, if is dark as it gets in the winter months even at 4pm, they call you worse, swearing names, as they remember you trying to help them in the library and they assume schooling is equal to being a 'mating place' - they are 6 feet tall, after all. Ultimately, not a great place to return to: people make a place and office politics does not bring any good vibes. Being extremely educated, polite and helpful is equal to them to being stupid.
The stars are for the books available. The variety is amazing. It would be great if more books for sale were put up, as well as a better bag to put them in. The flimsy plastic one they give isn't going to hold the amount a strong bag would hold, but for £1 you can't really complain. The staff is a 50/50, not very knowledgeable or interested in helping the public. Although that does depend on the day you go.
Nice library, has a welcoming atmosphere. Community space in the basement is well used by local people
Some of the employees are just redicilous. The worst is a short fat guy with glasses. He makes any tiny task so unpleasant and strung out. Makes a problem out of anything he can and loves to waste your time and mess you about as much as possible. If you've ever had the burden of dealing with him, you'll know exactly what I'm talking about.
Thee levels floor. There's a business point and another to pay council tax. Studying place on the ground floor. There's a few table on the -2 floor where I guess it's allow eating. On my visit I run away from smelly KFC chicken. Books and Chicken smell don't match.
Too loud to study or read, weird crowds at times, but safe. Nice collection of books, very nice plants on the little courtyard at the entrance
After a long walk and shopping , and come across this oasis place , a little piece of heaven , in the front of the library is a small garden just sit and relax / chill out and let the world go for a bit , then back to the real world Church st Library / 67, Church st NW8 8EU
I asked for help and the guy didn't know the answer but he referred me to his colleague at the front desk and she was able to help me recycle my Pringles.
This library space is very small.Every time I go to this library there are hardly any spaces upstairs and in the basement you can’t use your phone as there is no reception.
