A fabulous place full of history and information! Very recommended to visit. Came here in the morning, and left for lunch, then still thought of it so came back and visit again. The cloakroom is free of charge, which is really impressive and the staffs are very friendly. Would recommend everyone to buy something or at least donate a bit to support the museum, it’s really a treasure to have such a museum for everyone, no matter military, veterans, civilians or just history-lovers like me! It’s also a good place for children since they have some places and activities designed well.
Lots of great information and artifacts on the British Army, ranging from its birth in the 17th century up until the modern day. Highlights are the considerable amount of uniforms, artifacts, equipment and weaponry on display - as well as a Lynx helicopter and Challenger 2 tank. There's also a lot of insight into day-to-day life of a soldier, their stories and the campaigns that the British Army took part in.
This place is a must for anyone interested in British military history. The museum does a great job of telling the history of the British Army and has an impressive collection of arms and artifacts. I’m very interested in the Anglo-Zulu War, so it was fascinating to see the display and painting of Isandlwana. Other things not to miss include the bones of Napoleon’s horse and Lawrence of Arabia’s robe, headdress, and dagger.
Not very big, but interesting. You can see weapons from different periods, medals, uniforms and other military accessories. However, not as spectacular as I would have expected. There are not many fighting machines/tanks/planes or other massive exhibits. You need 60-90 minutes to visit it. Entrance is free. The museum also has a cafe where you can also have lunch.
Loved out visit, the films being played really changed the pace from a typical museum experience. This museum is the place to go if you want to see british small arms from history. Although they do have a great variety of arms from other countries. The temporary exhibit on sheakspear and the army was thought provoking, despite not being a Real fan of poetry and theater it really made me consider how armed forces have been percieved throughout history
It is all about the army, but also good for remembering the horrors of war wish more emphasis could be placed on that! And a very nice and spacious cafe to rest and enjoy some cake indeed! Bathrooms are clean & new than other museums that I have visited!
Good museum telling the history of war. Free entry and no reservation is needed. Not as big as the major museums in London but it is enough for you to spend an hour there.
Beautifully presented and spacious museum. Charting the history and role of the English/British/UK army from it's 'modern 1600s' beginnings to now. The exhibits are presented very well- a few well chosen ones pertaining to the subject at hand- and you can see a lot of them from all around angles. The info blurbs are well written and clear. Staff were very friendly and there is an added bonus of a cloak room. The cafe offers a great selection and was well presented as well! Definitely worth a visit if you are interested in not just the army but history in general. The activities for kids/families looked fun as well!
The National Army Museum in London offers a fascinating exploration of British military history, from early conflicts to contemporary engagements. With thoughtfully curated exhibits, interactive displays, and an impressive collection of artifacts, it provides visitors of all ages with a deep dive into the lives of soldiers and the impact of war on society. The museum is well-organized, making it easy to follow different themes, such as leadership, equipment, and personal stories from the battlefield. Admission is free, and the museum is very family-friendly, with engaging activities for children. Overall, it’s an insightful and respectful tribute to the Army's history and the people who serve.
Was really only interested in the army in Germany Post ww2. Good exhibition in general. A big too much about the immediate situation for my taste, but c'est la vie. Like lots of the later stuff, having been lucky enough to see East Berlin in 1987 myself.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
