Went there for the 1st time recently. Happened to be on a Sunday. Been wanting to go for ages. Busy and lively with a decent atmosphere. Staff were attentive and good fun. Guinness was spot on. You will struggle to find better. It’s well looked after and they take it seriously. Obviously some will pick faults in it, but it’s probably for the sake of complaining and going against the grain, rather than just accepting that it’s very good. Will return.
Went there for 11:30 to get a good seat for the community shield game and asked bartender was the sound going to be on for the game, told me yes there was. Spent £7 on each of my 3 pints of Guinness so I could enjoy watching the game with sound on, asked again at 2pm and bartender said yes sound was on again only to get to 3 o’clock when match kicked off only to be told “management” said they weren’t aloud to put sound on. Very disappointed. Will not be back.
I do really like Mulligans, but feel the standards with the Guinness have dropped and they are now living off their reputation. At £7 a pint it is extortionate - and the last few pints I've had have been below the level of many of the other good Guinness spots in town. Hope they get back to the great quality Guinness they used to have, at a more reasonable price!
***Updated to reflect management responded to me privately by email and were very responsive, which is really appreciated**** My boyfriend came here to watch the Man United game, he came at 12pm to guarantee a table for us and our friends at the 3pm kick off. He asked the staff would they have the sound & commentary of the match on and they said yes, I arrived at 2pm and asked the staff again to be sure and they said yes the sound would be on, match kicked off at 3pm, with no sound, I asked the bartender and she said they’d been told they now weren’t playing the sound. There was a live singer so clearly this was always the case and they never intended to have the sound on. Disappointed for my boyfriend who sat there for 3 hours before kick off buying drinks - it seemed to us Mulligans perhaps lied to keep people in the pub? I don’t know but it left us sour. Drinks are dear but we didn’t mind paying for them had we not been misled because it’s a nice pub otherwise if you’re not watching football.
I’m an expat and visited a week or so ago from Sydney. Spent three afternoons here, drinking the finest Guinness I have ever tasted. The wife had to drag me out, I loved the place that much. We’re moving back to Manchester in a few years, this place will become our local. There’s no better place to sit back, enjoy live music, have a good natter and drink the black stuff. Love the place and can’t bloody wait to get back!
Used to be a great Irish bar. Now, I was disappointed. The Guinness was not the best outside of Dublin, and too expensive. No rugby on TV?? The staff refused to consider turning over to a live irish provincial rugby game, in fact was told the manager said they are only allowed to show premiership football games, even though the previous match was over and just the pundits talking, while rugby on other channels the rest of the day, despite a crowd of over 20 rugby men in the bar. Left after one to go somewhere better.
Good entertainment and friendly place But off a squeeze when busy but that's part of the charm. Try a baby Guinness you won't regret itRooms: 4/5
Great Irish bar which is set back off the main street so you may miss it like I have done a lot of times and I'm so glad I spotted it, it's not very big inside but it's full of character and a good atmosphere, a bit pricey but I'll definitely be back when I'm next in ManchesterService: 5/5
Decent venue but it's small and gets packed very quickly. Mulligans was also a launch event for Forged Irish Stout but no longer sells it which was disappointingRooms: 2/5
Bouncers outside were courteous enough, but step inside and you face the wrath of a little creep, ready to pounce on you. First of my group of friends to get in. I hold the door behind me open for them, bloke tells me not to do so, I say 'it's okay', more are coming in. He takes umbrage to that, no understatement. I'm not a confrontational person, but all of a sudden this little man is pushing me out by the chest and telling his bouncers I've been abusive. First time I've been kicked out of a bar in my life, certainly before I've had a chance to sit down. Serious attitude problem. Avoid. We're clever enough to move on, but won't be coming back again, ever.
