A fabulous pub. Despite being hemmed in by the continuing high rise building that the dreadful council allow to make this once fine city as ugly as possible, this gem retains its character. It was around during the Peterloo Massacre and injured were brought there for treatment. It serves some fine real ales, has an extensive beers garden, comfortable interior and a room with some excellent United photos and memorabilia. Well worth a visit.
A traditional old pub in the heart of Manchester that claims to have been involved in the Peterloo massacre in 1819, which I can believe, it looks like it was. Nothing glitzy or glam about this place, just one step up from sawdust on the floor. However, the service was excellent, but there were few people in the place, and plenty of seating both inside and out. In fact there appeared to be a stage outside, I guess for bands. I can imagine it would be great place with the right band on. Taking about bands, they have some framed photos of Ed Sheeran performing there in 2014, see attached photos.
Great old pub to call in for a pint. Recently survived a redevelopment project which would have seen the pub wiped from the map. Definitely worth a visit friendly staff relaxed atmosphere.
Great Pub,,, good for watching football outside on a Summers eve. Seemed a lively but not too rowdy crowd here on a Thursday night. Definitely go again!
Got a terrible experience. We order half pint of lager, a soda and lime and a 125ml glass of wine and was charged: 11,25£ When I asked for a detailed receipt was not given one and the girl young girl with glasses, looked new said she made a mistake and charged me for a full pint given the total to 9,60£ I asked for the price of the lime and water and was 2,20£ !!!!! For soda water!!!! I asked another waiters and they didn’t even answered. I’m a tour guide and make a beer tour and wanted to include this bar for the history. Not a chance with prices more expensive than the Ivy and such a staff . The toilets were full of puddles of wee Shameful, awful experience.
Good, quiet backstreet pub, friendly staff. Has a lot of history as it was used as a mortuary for the victims of the Peterloo massacre....has a very eerie atmosphere and at least one residual ghost haunting the place! Well kept ale.
Used to be the best pub in manchester, still had a cracking time in there Saturday. Great atmosphereService: 5/5
TOP PUB Good Atmosphere good for the football normally as a brilliant beer garden will have again when the tosspot gary neville gives it BACKService: 5/5
It’s a famous United pub but they’ve sold their beer garden so it is no where near as good now. Shame.
A proper pub with a proper atmosphere. And was great to see no bloody gambling machines too. #spendyourpoundonapintFood: 5/5
