Story

The inspiration for MinMin derived from a friend who was curious to know how to pronounce the word 'noodles' in chinese. We like the name so much that we decided to call our noodle bar MinMin.

Our love of noodles and frequent trips to Hong Kong meant that we were always finding new and exciting local cafes on every street corner that sells authentic, simple and tasty noodle soup.

This inspired us to open MinMin using noodles that are specially sourced and imported from Hong Kong, from a well known and popular manufacture that have over 50 years of experience producing noodles of a particularly high standard in quality and taste. Noodles are loved by everyone young and old; it is a simple dish that can be eaten everyday for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Our food also has Vietnamese, Thai, Japanese influences which is food we love to eat during our travels and on this note we like to take you on these travel journeys and created a menu for you to discover and experience at MinMin.

Not as good as it used to be :(. The new menu seems over-priced for what you get and a lot of the old favorites have been reworked in a much less elegant way. The waitress, while quite friendly, didn't seem to know her way round the place and we had to stand up multiple times and go to her to ask for things like soy sauce (which used to be on the table as standard), or the bill (which we waited 15 minutes for while she played on her phone). It's a shame, I've come here for years.

Remember when Minmin was great? It's apparently under new management, and although the menu has been kept the same, it's like they've done a covers album having never heard the original music. The wood ear mushroom and cucumber salad has been turned from a fresh, light and savoury delight into a pungent garlic bomb. The mango and prawn steamed rice rolls are less delicate (no carrot, no lettuce) and come with a nasty mayo instead of the old garlic chilli and ginger rice wine dip. Black bean sauce has seen a similar decline in quality. Only consolation: the tom yum's still just as tasty.

Had a meal here with a group of 10. I ordered salt and chilli wings and a pad Thai. The wings were seriously undercooked, raw with blood seeping from them. They were happy to change them and the second lot were fine but not a very good start to see food poisoning on a plate. The pad thai was very bland and tasted a lot more like plain chow mein noodles. My friends had crispy duck and pancakes which they said were ok, hence the 2 stars and not 1. Lastly, service was minimal. The servers disappear between taking orders so had to go to them to tell them about the wings and ask for some drinks too.

One of the first Chinese restaurants I went to for some takeaway after moving to Birmingham, and it sure had some bang for the buck. The meals were really tasty and their portions are enough for a hungry mouth. We ordered their skewers as appetizers and they were delicious.
