Milarrochy Bay Camping and Caravanning Club Site

Story

With spectacular views over Loch Lomond, this Club campsite is great for relaxing.

The appeal of our Milarrochy Bay Club campsite has to be its location on the east shore of the stunning Loch Lomond in the Loch Lomond and Trossach’s National Park.

This tranquil campsite is popular with walkers, with the West Highland Way footpath right on the doorstep, while Ben Lomond, the highest mountain in the area, is north of the campsite near Rowardennan. Milarrochy Bay campsite will appeal to boaters and canoeists too with a long loch-side frontage with slipways for boat launching.

After a day’s walking or messing around on the water, this campsite is ideal for just sitting back and soaking up the breathtaking views across the Loch. This 150-pitch campsite welcomes all types of campers. Backpackers using the site can make use on the backpacker facility – a bonus in inclement weather.

South of the campsite in Balloch you can enjoy a guided hike from the Loch Lomond Shores Visitor Centre or follow the Sculpture Trail from Loch Lomond Shores. Hop on a water bus from here too and enjoy a wide range of cruises, some calling in at the Loch’s many islands, or hire a kayak, canoe or pedal boat. The amazing Sea Life Centre is here too and Balloch Castle and Country Park.

Learn about the Scottish folk hero Red MacGregor at the Rob Roy and Trossach’s Visitor Centre at Callendar. Rob Roy’s Cave and Bracklinn Falls are here too.

No trip to Scotland should be without a taste of its favourite tipple. East of Balloch at Blairquhosh the Glengoyne Distillery offers whisky tours and tastings.

I cannot comment on the caravan section of the grounds but I have stayed on the tent pitch area. I've stayed here twice at the end of 2017 whilst doing the West Highland Way. The site is clean with plenty of space. Prices are good and the staff very friendly. The ebullition blocks are well maintained, clean and smell fresh. Would recommend this site as a night 2 stop over on the WHW when walking North bound

This was our last stop before heading home, we had a very enjoyable 2 night stay. Pitches are nicely spaced out most have a decent view of the Loch, which by the way is perfect for canoeing so made good use of the slipway . The path along side the Loch revealed amazing beaches and we were able to walk to Balmaha and have lunch at the Oak Tree Inn what a bonus!.. topped off with breathtaking sunsets. It's 5 stars from us simply because we couldn't find anything not to like.

Lovely camp site, marvellous views. We also befriended the camp cat called Spare who made himself at home in our tent - as cat lovers we were most pleased. The site had good amenities! One issue is location, it does take a while to get to other places, but if you're doing the West Highland Way or just staying on the Loch it's perfect!

This is the most we paid out of all campsites we stayed on. Facilities were poor. I don't usually go away to do washing but the weather had been so wet. There is no drying room for walkers. Only 1 small washing machine and tumble dryer. Someone had opened the door when my washing was in and it then resets the timer, so took twice as long. 😠 I then had to wait for the tumble dryer as someone else was now using it. What was so annoying and what I disagree with most, it was a member of staff. Surely they shouldn't be using it in the busy hours. 2 hours later we were finally on our way.

All the positive features were as expected but placement of a marker log on roadside meant we unfortunately damaged our camper van on exiting. The water refuel station in centre has a very tight turning space and the log aimed to prevent driving on the grass means a long campervan cannot earily turn out into the one way drive. In my opinion, enforcing a site rule protecting grass shouldn't come higher than making the site workable for customers. I will give it 5 stars when the road at this spot is widened or gravel placed down to enable safe turning thank you.
