No after-sales service at all. - Buying a pair of clip-on pearl earrings as a gift at Mikimoto Japan a month ago - The recipient has ear holes so only pierced earrings can be worn. - Mikimoto UK said they could not do anything as it was not bought in the UK - Mikimoto Japan said the order passed the return window but suggested me contacting Mikimoto UK for the repairing service which is around £400. First, I was surprised UK Branch said they could not help whilst Japan Branch said the repairing service is available in their UK Branch. Secondly, I hope the store could understand that selling jewellery is not like selling a bottle of handwash. Luxury item buyers expect more services, especially jewellery always needs adjustments on sizing etc.
FAULTY product - WITHOUT global warranty: My sister bought the bracelet in Hong Kong in Dec 2022 for my wife’s wedding gift. The butterfly clasp was faulty when we tried to put it on at the first time. No click sound and it is so fragile that the pearls drop right after we used little bit more force. We went to the store and they need to charge £49 repair fee and took the bracelet away. I would have thought the “luxury brand” should have global basic warranty or at least ensure the products meet reasonable standard when it was first newly purchased. Turn out I’m wrong. Mikimoto does not fix it even though the product is new and the product was faulty. No appointment system - waited outside the store for more than 15 min in cold weather: Four weeks later, I received a call and a staff said that the bracelet is repaired and ready to pick up. I asked whether we need to make an appointment. The staff just said no appointment is needed and we can come at any time. When we arrived, the security guy doesn’t let us go in because he said each time the staff could only serve one customer. My wife and I waited for 5 min and they don’t have appointment system. We then came back an hour later, then another pairs of customers were inside. My wife and I could only wait outside the door for more than 15 minutes cumulatively even though there were spaces inside and we indicated we were just collecting the repaired product. Having said that, if you cannot promise I can come in to pick up at any time during open hours, please do not promise and warn us in advance. Better still, they could operate an appointment system. Don’t let your customers waiting outside for just collecting the repaired products. Staff being unprofessional and not helpful: We managed to get inside after waiting. We asked again whether the Hong Kong store / legal entity can pay for the charge. The staff said she is unsure about the regional or global policy and said the 49£ note was issued by her manager. She didn’t help call / email the Hong Kong staff, instead she just asked us to go to Hong Kong store for the claim if needed. A better customer services / after sales would be asking the group company on behalf of the frustrated customers, especially when an oversea call isn’t easy for an individual customer. Overall comment: - Faulty product is fine. But no global guarantee on new purchase. - Waited outside the store because they got no appointment system. - Staff doesn’t appear to be helpful and doesn’t know what is the warranty period and global policy. Didn’t help make inquiry to overseas stores for repair charge.
We went to browse the store and tried on a few pearl earrings. Very classic yet beautiful and elegant design! The staff were very friendly, and I felt very well attended. The whole experience was really pleasant.
Loved a gift of Mikimoto pearl studs my husband but one broke apart soon after, due to bad build quality. They now want to charge to have it glued back together in the same way as before. Stay clear
Purchased traditional pearl bracelet BIG MISTAKE. Clasp continually came undone. Was returned for fixing as clasp was incorrectly made and I noticed this within few weeks - I was not offered a new one which i should have been at this stage. Bracelet "fixed" but returned back to me with shoddy restringing, had to be returned to Miki AGAIN AND Clasp still not 100% secure. I queried an exchange given product not fit for purpose and back and forth in first few months! Flat refusal from senior management and I am a pre existing customer who insisted NOTHING defective, but offered a "security chain" to be added to the bracelet, complete contradiction!!. But only solution offered! Long story short really reconsider these pearls, because I felt they did naff all after purchase was done. Bad experience and sadly one which is becoming too common nowadays.
Very friendily and helpful staff, who made us feel welcome and accomodated to our interests. The quality of the jewellery is of course as good as it gets - pure perfection.
