Only popped in for a cold drink on a very hot day. 3 soft drinks bearing in mind one of them was a small drink for our toddler as well cost us £12 which I thought was quite expensive considering it was just pop and no alcohol... we only stayed for one after that! Nice scenic and convenient location though. There were queues for the toilet and had a very desperate toddler , luckily there are public toilets next door.
Lovely place, definitely a very impressive view by the canal. We didn't eat so I wouldn't be able to rate food, however service was alright and the garden is perfect for a summer day. Interior is classic english pubService: 4/5
Popped into the Midland Pub at North Parade, Matlock Bath in Derbyshire for a lunchtime meal. The menu choice and food served after ordering was ok, albeit the meals were not served as hot as they should of been, we chose a homemade slice of steak pie with fries and garden peas. Although the service was ok the appearance of the pub both inside and outside is let down by it being in a really poor state of maintenance and cleanliness. This is not just in one area, it's the whole pub and rear beer garden / garden terrace areas too. From the front entrance it doesn't look too bad but inside it's totally different. Expect to see dirty floors, walls, and seats, misted up windows, paint falling off everywhere, dirty toilets with holes on the walls where tiles have fallen off, and just neglect everywhere you look. Would also of preferred it if the resident pubs large dog wasn't free to roam everywhere. Overall, it's ok to visit for a quick drink and a bite to eat, but don't expect much of a nice dining experience. If we had got more time on the day we would of walked out and gone elsewhere! A real shame considering this Matlock Bath's fantastic pub location which is right on the side of the river just at the end of the access road to the train station, it's also directly opposite the Balti Restaurant Indian restaurant. With some money spent and some good effort on cleaning and maintenance being carried out it could be totally transformed into a nice place, and not the scruffy pub it is at present. Hoping things change here for the future, but we won't be returning back to the Midland in a rush with how it is now.
Called in for a quick pint. Decided to have some food while we were there. No issues with the pint or the food.Service: 4/5
Landlord not very friendly nor was he very helpful. Sat having a drink with my partner, other people in the pub and people trying to come in to be served only to be refused and the rest of us to drink up because he was closing at 4pm and not opening to the next day. I would have thought he would need the business after we all endured covid...weird if you ask me.
Called in for a refreshing drink, it was a vry hot day n the pint ov Rhubarb cider was jus wot I needed, the Tropical cider was also grt. Nice n cool inside n made vry welcome.
Went in with a friend and could tell that the owner had a bias against younger people. Snapped at us to do track and trace when walking in and was rudely asked “you having food then”. We were very polite with the woman behind the bar who I assume was the owner but got nothing but rudeness back. Once seated we were given a menu and once we chose what we wanted we were made to pay before we received the food, which nobody else in the pub seemed to have to do. Food was really average at best for the price. Will not be returning here due to the complete prejudice against younger adults and awful customer service.
The Midland pub is an absolute classic every one should pay a visit the food here was delicious and you certainly got your monies worth and a big thank you to the staff who were fantasticRooms: 5/5
