This hotel seems to have once been really good but it's now quite run down. It's clear not enough maintenance has gone on - there are a lot of worn carpets, walls crumbling, stains, wallpaper tears, broken lift in lobby and unfortunately the swimming pool was out of action too. The service however was fantastic and the people working there were surprisingly happy and positive - from the receptionist, the bar tender to the breakfast host. The breakfast was pretty standard and the family room was a decent size - just a bit run down. Personally, I wouldn't look to book here again unless they had a full renovation!
Great hotel in a perfect location - we stayed a week in July and enjoyed it. Staff were great and really helpful, rooms spacious, bed really comfortable. Five minute walk into Mickleover with some nice bars and food. Just needs a lick of paint in places but other than that it was great. We would stay again and no doubt will.Rooms: 4/5
The room was fine but could do with some updating. The main lifts were broken but it was okay as service lifts available. Unfortunately the spa was out of order for our entire stay which we were disappointed about and we were told until arrival. That said, the staff were incredibly gracious in dealing with it hence only a one star reduction. Sometimes can’t be helped and the staff really were wonderful.
We recently stayed at this wonderful hotel for two nights on a package deal that included numerous extras, and we had a fabulous stay. Despite arriving on a busy bank holiday weekend, the service was exceptional from start to finish. Upon checking into our room, we discovered that the balcony door didn't open properly. We politely requested a room change, and the receptionist, who was exceptionally accommodating, managed to find us an alternative room despite the hotel being quite full. The lady on reception on Sunday and Monday evening was particularly welcoming and did everything possible to ensure our stay was enjoyable. The rooms are spacious and spotlessly clean, with very large and comfortable beds that made for a restful night's sleep. We also enjoyed using the leisure facilities, which added to the overall experience. We dined at the hotel restaurant on the first night, where we received fantastic service from a staff member named José we believe that's his name. He was attentive and made sure we were well looked after. Breakfast each morning was equally enjoyable, with a good selection and attentive, welcoming staff. While the hotel shows signs of age and could benefit from some redecoration and repairs in certain areas, its character and comfort, combined with the excellent staff, make it a very welcoming place to stay. We would certainly consider returning for another visit.
Im from north Yorkshire. Stayed here after a day at Alton Towers with my 10year old son. Checked the Alton towers reviews and they were terrible. Best western hotel offers a Clean pool, nice staff and a comfortable setting for everyone! Would highly recommend and stay again. Rooms: Clean, Spacious and facilitated Nearby activities: Alton Towers 20 mins drive away, local city to explore. Food & drinks: Hotel bar and restaurant. Polite and friendly service
Stayed here for 2 nights with my partner when we went to alton towers. They told us the day before our visit that the pool and jacuzzi would be closed for the duration of our stay. Room was very nice and we got breakfast included. It was full English breakfast and we enjoyed it very much. Do not pay for parking! You don't have to if you're staying at the hotel we learnt that the hard way. Though, they did give us 2 free drinks as we paid. They asked if we wanted our room cleaned during our stay, we said no and they cleaned anyway while we were out. Overall a decent stay but could've been better.
Me and my husband stayed at the Derby Mickleover Hotel for 2 nights at the end of July. We were attending a wedding in nearby Ashbourne. We'd read other reviews about issues other's had had, regarding parking at the hotel. We made sure we entered the relevant details into the tablet at the reception to avoid a parking fine. However, almost 2 weeks later, we received two parking fines for £100 each. To cut a long story short, if you ever find yourself in the same situation, contact the hotel in the first instance and give them the reference number of the parking charge or charge's in our case, and they will cancel it. This will save you a lot of stress and grief, believe me. We did have a lovely stay at the hotel. The staff were pleasant, friendly and helpful. Our room was clean and the walk in shower was great. We had dinner the first night in the restaurant. My husband had a mixed grill and I had a grilled chicken salad and we both enjoyed our meal. Breakfast both mornings was really good too. Fresh fruit, cereal's and porridge, toast, pastries and then the cooked food for those who like a cooked breakfast which was constantly topped up. We didn't use the swimming pool but it was well used while we were there. Also, if you forgo room service for each day of your stay, you can claim a free drink at the bar. Yes the hotel is tired and would benefit from a referb but this shouldn't put you off from staying here.
Stayed in this hotel three nights and absolutely loved it. The staff were most helpful, food was spot on and location five star. I would recommend.
Great hotel it looks a little dated on the outside but really smart and nice and clean inside. Very good value, especially for a friday night. Checked in by friendly chatty staff, and our room was upgraded free of charge. Nice comfy beds and free access to the gym and spa Rooms: Nice spacious rooms with aircon
Lovely and quiet location. Found one staff member at the hotel, a little rude made us feel uncomfortable and upset during breakfast. Had a problem with the room and straight away they changed it for us. Otherwise we loved the hotel we were a wedding group of over 20 people. Thank you staff.Rooms: 5/5
