Story

Our ingredients and fresh produce are sourced from local farms and butchers. Our eggs are always free range and vegetables are organic when available. Our pasta, pizza flour (farina), olives, vinegars and oils, wines and beers are imported directly from mainland Italy and Sardinia and delivered to our door weekly as required.

Our Owners Walter and Roberto Pani Head Chef have also been importeing directly to Mascalzone from Arbus, a delightful town situated high in the mountains of the Medio Campidano region of South Western Sardinia.

Had the special linguine pasta and it was very very good. The pizza was delicious too. All dishes were really good value for the high quality food, I’d definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone who likes Italian food.
Wonderful food as always, prompt and attentive service. We’ve been before and will continue to visit, fantastic restaurant.
What a great find. The food was lovely. Not a big place so not loads of space. My one criticism...we had no sooner finished our lovely starters they served our main. Would have liked 10 mins between the courses. That apart food was great.
Simply can’t recommend highly enough. An absolute gem of a restaurant with a fusion of Scottish & Sardinian flavours that perfectly complement one another. Every course was outstanding and bursting with flavours. Staff were first rate; friendly, attentive and professional throughout. Finally, it was excellent value for money and we will definitely be going back.
Dined here with my wife. Food was excellent with a good choice on normal menu but the highlight was the Specials Menu which had a number of dishes we could have chosen. Service good & attentive. A good atmosphere. Overall would recommend to anyone.Food: 5/5
Despite the excellent reviews we found the food and service to be underwhelming. We had the calamari which admittedly was great. However for main we had the mushroom risotto and the picante pizza. The risotto rice was undercooked with a weird hard mushroom, and the pizza was OK. For desert we had the tiramisu which seemed old and watery and the Italian hot choc recommended. Don’t trust the amazing reviews.
Amazing authentic Italian food. Every bite was delicious. The portions sizes were good and the price is great. The staff were lovely and attentive. You should definitely phone up to book a table because it's small and always busy. I can't wait to go back and try different dishes.
This is an absolute gem. Real authentic Italian food at its best. Great atmosphere and service will come again to Newcastle just to eat there.Food: 5/5
Second visit and the extension for dining is perfect. The food is exquisite. Loved the melanzani starter and the special of spinach ravioli with aubergine ragu was amazing. All my friends meals were equally great and we loved our dining experience. Thank you. We are coming back soon. Vegetarian options: The choices for vegetarian were excellent.
Amazing place. Worthy of Six stars! Fabulous food and not overpriced too. Gets very busy, as it's quite small. Booking is essential, especially at the weekend.
