only came here to check out the m&s food instead of the entirety of the shop, as i wouldn’t say i’m marks & spencer’s usual demographic 23M… i love an m&s food so i like to try and visit one whenever i’m in a new place. this was a lovely store that was nicely laid out. nice big elevator available. i liked looking at the posh water bottles £2 if you please!!!! big fan of the m&s bakery however i can’t eat gluten anymore, so no treats for me.
Awesome all in one shopping. Sells everything. 2nd -4th floor is apparel and a cafe; First floor is an awesome grocery store- unique offerings. Wonderful to visit for all your needs
The new design cafe in Marks & Spencer Parliament Street York makes it difficult, if not impossible, for people with certain disabilities to use. The new cake display is on 2 levels, the higher tier being out of reach for wheelchair users. See pic The drinks ordering and payment area doesn't has anywhere to put the tray other than to lift it onto the perspex display area that is chest height for me. There was a narrow ledge lower down, but that had items for sale on and wasn't wide enough to accommodate a tray. The drinks I noted were then put on the tray when they were made. I use a walking stick so the lifting with one hand, and moving the tray again with a hot drink on is impossible, not to say dangerous. See pic This would be impossible for a wheelchair user, or someone who is of short stature. What happened to having a waist level area for trays? The area where the milk, sugar, stirrers, napkins are stationed is too high for a wheelchair user and involved stretching. See pic There seems to have been a complete lack of consideration for people with disabilities or mobility issues such as needing to use a walking stick. The design is I'm sure not a one off and business wide. A company as big as Mark's & Spencer must have a disabilities and Inclusion officer - so where were they when this design was agreed? Where was the consultation?
My friend and I came in for a bra fitting and were both seen by Alison. We were made to feel so comfortable and she really knew her stuff. We both left feeling very informed and happy! Thanks again!
**This review pertains to the café on the top floor of M&S, not the whole shop**nnExcellent gf scone with lashings of butter and strawberry jam in their own containers other gf options available- see photo. Great views, good seating, friendly service. Full of old giffers.nnBit of a walk to the toilets!nnDTRnnThis is a hidden gem of a cafe in york with great views over the Minster, even on an overcast day.
