Marks & Spencer Workington

I have been shopping here for around forty years for both my weekly food shop and clothes. I have noticed over the last few years the sell by date is usually 3/4 days which isn't much good when you do a weekly shop. I get their dog food for my dog, and today when I went there wasn't any. I phoned Workington, and the two Carlisle stores and they told me that they didn't have a date when the dog food would be back in store, then I remembered they did exactly the same last year. I was told they take it off the shelves so they can display Xmas item. Personally I think this is disgusting, my little dog just likes that marks and Spencer product. I also complained a couple of months ago about the chicken pieces 3 or £7 pounds, I put in a formal complaint and I received a voucher for £5. I was so disgusted that I put it in the waist bin. I used to praise the food and clothing, but now the standards have dropped so much I can understand why your profits have dropped. I am one of your loyal customers but that change. D Carr.

Staff are always welcoming and friendly. The store is always fully stocked with some great deals on lovely food etc

Fairly small as Marks go does have a reasonable sized Foodhall. The only M&S in West Cumbria nearest large M&S Superstore Carlisle City Centre & a Foodhall on Kingstown Industrial Industrial Estate (North of Carlise via Bypass & near M6 junction).

I'm very loyal to M & S and suspect the issue with this branch is poor management rather than the decent staff team but... #1 The difficulty collecting internet orders here in 2017 is absurd #2 The stocking issues in the Food Hall are getting worse. #3 The mispricing of items in the Food Hall is now so bad a visit from Trading Standards is in order. I've put them in the sin bin for a couple of months to see if they improve.

Good quality food, clothes and household items as always with M&S, friendly knowledgeable staff, you would struggle to do a week's shopping here but ideal for bits now and again
