A lovely hotel in a old Victorian mansion.
I was in a good sized room (15) with seating area. Unfortunately being on the rear of the hotel I wasn't treated to views over the grounds.
Breakfast was a standard offering with self service hot and cold food. The breakfast seating area looks out over a lovely garden.
There is a good sized car park with disabled spaces near the hotel entrance.

I can not give More than 3 stars. Staff will help you no matter what. But waiting one hour 15 from starter to getting main that was Friday night. Saturday night was a lot longer 2 hours we gave up in the end. It would off bin quicker to ring for a Pizza. It's a shame the food was good when it arrives. I just wonder if it was just like the faulty towers when they was running up the road for the food .
Breakfast was good but needed that after a disturbed night's sleep due to the radiators banging. Shame just needs an update and more help in the kitchen.

Another lovely overnight stay at the Makeney. Always made very welcome. Rooms are quaint and homely even if a little dated. Food absolutely beautiful from the bar but haven't tried the resteraunt except for breakfast which on a b&b basis is one of the best I've had. Use this place regularly for work commitments but always busy especially in the spring and summer months.

Beautiful hotel, fantastic breakfast and gorgeous location. A couple of lovely rural pubs within a 5 minute walk and excellent transport links into Derby City Centre (every 15 mins). We will be back in the near future 😊

Me and my family decided to spend Christmas Day here, it was our first experience in what we expected to be a lovely place to visit.
We arrived at 1.45pm and our table was booked for 2pm. We wasn’t greeted when we arrived and were expected to hang our own coats up, we then got our drinks and were told to sit and wait, we waited for half an hour and were never shown to our table so we had to go and ask staff... eventually we sat down, the atmosphere were awful, the staff were miserable and the service were very poor.
The food was very basic, very long waits in between meals, the turkey was processed and the vegetables were basic boiled carrots, brussels and cauliflower.
All tables around us after people had departed were left uncleared and as time went on we were the only table left waiting for our coffees and mince pies to finish off the meal which we had paid for.
After sitting and waiting for over an hour we’d had enough and decided to go home. All the staff had disappeared and we couldn’t find anyone to ask.
This experience was such a shame, it was our first year of going out for Christmas and when you’re paying £72pp you expect it to be good.
Sadly we will never visit this place again and wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.
