Me and my partner booked a morning spa session last minute and compared to other spas I have been to I feel although this is in a beautiful spot with lovely spa staff, this one does not hit the mark, considering the price tag and facilities. The swimming pool was cold and I thought that a lot of rooms could benefit from a renovation. I did enjoy my massage and the relaxation room regardless as I struggle with a lot of tension in my neck and shoulders. In an amazing spot with beautiful views to the lake. The food was also quite nice : Just didnt have a luxurious feel to the place like I was hoping.
The location of the hotel is literally unrivalled. It's set in a stunning location close to all the nice places. We were by one of the louder bars and couldn't hear anything and the view from our room was magnificent. Please see the photo attached to the reviewnnThe room itself was a lovely mix of modern facilities mixed with traditional decor, it was exactly what you want from a hotel in Windermere.nnMy wife had a treatment there and felt like she came out a brand new person, and they didn't give her the hard sell of the products they used. She couldn't speak more highly enough.nnThe breakfast room was beautiful with amazing views of the grounds, the coffee and see were hot, could've done with a extra sausage or rasher of bacon, bur my wife told me I had plenty!nnIt wasn't all rosey though...nnThe parking situation is a bit of a let down. Granted we arrived on a Saturday and it was a bit busier however the instructions for how to park should be made very clear in a separate email, numerous other guests while we were there were exasperated by not knowing the procedure for getting to it which is a very short walk away. Additionally, we have an electric car and we're lucky enough to get 1 of the four chargers, but once I was done there was no method for letting another guest get into my spot to charge up so I took up a whole space for the duration I was there as if I'd left I'd have been charged again to park. I did tell the reception but they didn't understand or care what I was saying.
Bad news, good news.nBad first, the hotel is just old and smells as such. The room had some mould above the shower and the door closer, leaking oil down the door.nGood news, the staff were very helpful and polite. Views were idyllic from our room and afternoon tea in the bay window downstairs.nnThey just need to invest in modernisation. That can be achieved with the right approach whilst maintaining original features.
This was unfortunately a disappointing stay overall. Some front desk staff were sarcastic and unhelpful, and the check in was late due to how busy staff were. There was a general sense that there were not enough staff in shift due to the issues experienced; being directed to the wrong room for afternoon tea, slow service in the dining room, and wrong food orders being brought to the table.nnThe food itself was tasty, but the experience was marred by the consistent mix-ups. Staff were very polite and apologetic, but it's certainly not an experience I'd be willing to repeat.nnOn the other hand, the spa though small was nice and relaxing. The staff there were attentive and professional.
We stayed here for a couple of days and had a fantastic time. The hotel has its charms, but it is looking a little tired in places.nnSaying that though, it's clear some money has been spent renovating the spa, which looks newly finished, while not much needs done about the views, which are stunning.nnA shoutout is also needed for the hard working staff, who were all friendly and happy to be of assistance.nnWe even got the welcome bonus of a free room upgrade, which is always nice and allowed us to admire the views from our window.nnBreakfast was nothing award winning, but rather o not terrible either, you are once again treated well by the staff.nnParking is available, although at this time the electric charger was not working, though it looks like a few are being installed.
