I love this place. It's location and the atmosphere is perfect. The service could be improved but the food was excellent. The cauliflower bites were divine. There's a downstairs space that looked cosy. I'd advise you to make a reservation if you want to be sure that you're going to have a table. We have been here twice. The first time we ate a traditional scouse stew and a fish and chips. They were both delicious. And the last time we ate a sunday roast beef and a sunday roast chicken; also delicious. Moreover, prices aren't expensive. It's a good value for money. Main dishes cost around 13 and 16 pounds. Next time in Liverpool, we'll come back for sure.
Visited this gem tucked away off Water Street and nestled by the beautiful St. Nick’s church gardens to sample their legendary Scouse ~ We tried the following: Scouse Pie Sticky Toffee Pudding Apple and Peach Crumble They offer 3 types of Scouse but we decided to go for the one with the Pie traditional beef scouse topped with a flaky puff pastry lid served with seasonal veggies and chunky chips. Quite rich with chunks of meat and veggies on it complimented by a side of greens and chips - such a hearty bowl of goodness, so satisfied with it. For desserts, we had the Sticky Toffee Pudding and Apple & Peach Crumble which were both equally scrumptious with just the right amount of sweetness to 'em. Washed our meal down with a refreshing "Perfect Storm" cocktail and beer. Ma Boyle’s caters for breakfast brunchers, lunch catch ups and later get-togethers with delectable bistro food and a fab range of drinks & irresistible cocktails. It’s an intimate hideaway from the hustle and bustle of city life which features weekly jazz nights too. The attentive and accomodating staff made our dining experience here so enjoyable.
Very welcoming and pint and food of good quality. Busier than we thought it would be as area was otherwise quiet. Would definitely go back. Changed a lot since 1990 since they did pints of prawns for lunch and didn't open at weekendFood: 4/5
The service was great, lovely atmosphere, but the food was horrid! The most disgusting nachos I've ever had. Toppings were out of a squeezy bottle. The tofu fajitas were covered in sugar syrup. The cocktails were acceptable. Will not go again.Food: 1/5
Stunning little venue 100 yards from the Pier Head but hidden from plain sight. Big rum bar, but so much more than that, great food, ale and service. One to try you will not be disappointed, I went for the Scouse with a side order of chips....simply stunning. Outdoor seating available with views of St Nicholas Church. Venue itself is split over multiple levels with toilets being downstairs, may mean not suitable for anyone who is less mobile.
Nice restaurant with excellent service - our waiter was really friendly and very efficient. However, the food didn't match the service. I ordered the chicken fajitas and they were distinctly average. The tortillas were not particularly warm and there wasn't really enough of the chicken, peppers and onions to sufficiently fill the wraps; a lot of mouthfuls were mostly wrap. The presentation of the dish overall could have been better - the wraps looked like they'd been thrown onto the tray, there was spillage of the dips, and the salsa looked like a bowl of ketchup. Overall, it was quite underwhelming. One of my friends had the fish and chips and found it to be quite greasy. Another ordered the Scouse pie, which looked good and he said was very tasty. If I go back, I'd probably give that a try.
My family came to see me from Spain and I wanted to impress them with a good meal. It was a bit disappointing. The Sunday Roast was ok, nothing special. Not the best I’ve had, the beef was hard and dry. The fish and chips was bland and boring, the fries were just not well cooked. We all know one cannot expect much from British cuisine lol but, as I say, I’ve had better ones. The place was cold. Many of the customers around us didn’t dare to take off their coats to eat. Also the music was a bit too loud, people almost had to shout. Not the best atmosphere to have a peaceful family dinner. However, the service was amazing. They were very very kind and put no problem to reduce the volume of the music. It’s a pity. I liked the place and the location, so will possibly come back for a beer.
One pint review well, two pints this time: nice beer garden in front, two levels for social pub life or just cosy, private time. Downstairs IS for private hiring and they have regular Jazz Club nights. Friendly staff, beer was excellent, not cheap but that's for the location: busy high streets and top places near, pub is on very quiet off-street.
Ma Boyles exceeded all expectations for our wedding celebration! From the moment we stepped through the doors, we were greeted with warmth and hospitality, thanks in large part to the exceptional service provided by Callum Bibby. Callum went above and beyond to ensure every detail of our special day was flawlessly executed. His attention to detail, professionalism, and genuine care for our experience truly made our celebration unforgettable. The rest of the staff were excellent also. The quality of the food blew us all away. We couldn't have chosen a better venue, and we couldn't have asked for a better host than Callum. Thank you, Ma Boyles, and thank you, Callum, for making our wedding day absolutely perfect!
