I think I first went for a pint here in the early seventies. That's over 50 years ago, and in all that time it's not changed one iota. I'm glad it's not changed, you need to preserve some pubs so you can remember what pubs used to be like in the good old days. I assume most of the regulars wouldn't like it to change either. One thing that always reminds me of this pub is the pork pies, they've been selling them for many years now. There's not many pubs where you can still get a nice pie and a pint. They've always got a good selection of Real ales on offer.
A bustling pub with good service. There’s a great selection of craft beers on offer and the decor inside is traditional, with original features and wood panelling.Service: 5/5
Last time I tried to visit here it was too crowded and I knew I had to return to see why it’s so popular. Fantastic city centre pub that has kept the real pub feeling alive with a great selection of cask ales and lots of original woodwork and ornate glass. Sat in a very comfortable back room with a nice music mix playing and enjoyed the ambience over a couple of real beers . Definitely on my city centre list now and looking forward to the next visit.
Great Traditional Pub, located 2 mins from Moorfields Train Station The inside is beautiful, very ornate and in fantastic condition, which makes for a really comfortable place to drink It has a decent selection of Beers that are reasonably priced, Service is good I didn't try the food, so can't comment One of the best things at least for me is that they have a Jukebox and even better, it's on free-play Such a great Bar to visit
The Guinness was served in a non-guinness glass and was very thin and watery. Only 2 other people in, so atmosphere was non-existant. Nice original decor inside, but I don't think I'll bother visiting again.
The Lion Tavern is probably my favourite pub in the city. Its got everything you could ask for in a local. Great selections of beers and ales changed regularly. Knowledgeable and friendly staff who are happy to help with any enquiries. Fresh pork pies available along with a plethora of other bar snacks. Seating available in the two snugs or propped up around the bar itself. It's also got a free jukebox with a selection of classic hits. Can't recommend it enough.
Not been in for a few years and delighted to say its not changed 1 bit! Gorgeous place with all original fixtures and fittings - still have the match stick strikers in front of the bar!! Beautiful decor with various places to sit, drink and relax. Next time I shall be having 1 of their famous pies or pastie Wheelchair accessibility: Able to access wheelchair into all areas
Great range of ales, great staff. Very good Guinness.Service: 5/5
Listed grand ll. Named after a steam locomotive. Mosaic floor. Tiled walls. Etched + stained glass. Good selection of real ales.
Lovely iconic old pub. Sorry but nearly 12 for a Guinness and pint of cider, no atmosphere and having my songs deleted off the albeit free jukebox and manky toilets doesn't make it worth paying over the odds for.Atmosphere: 1/5
