Can't knock this experience! It is what it is, you pay to go into an old slate mine, you get given a helmet and off you go. It was really interesting to learn about the history of slate mining, and the cool temperature in the cavern was very welcome on a hot day. The information boards guide you around very clearly so we didn't get lost. I've only had to take one star off because there was a button for guests to press that was supposed to dim the lights to candlelight level, so that you could appreciate how the miners would have experienced the caverns, but it didn't work! Our 4 year old was quite disappointed, but other than that we had a great time! After visiting here, we got a discount for the farm park which was also great!
A nice trip out today at Llanfair Slate Caverns. The tour is self-guided so you can spend as long or as little as you like here. We spent around 40 minutes in the caverns themselves. The cost is £9 adults, £8 children, £8.35 concessions. The site is dog friendly and there is no extra charge for the pooches. There is a good gift shop where you can also purchase your tickets on the day. We visited mid-week and practically has the place to ourselves it was so quiet. They also sell Dragon Cavern cheese here, that has been matured in the state cavern themselves. Yummy yummy yummy. Ample parking to be found nearby.
It's fun and novel, it's a self guided tour through the old slate mines, you do learn a fair amount about the work done there. Handy tip, drive up the steep road to the car park, and don't park down the hill by the park farm unless you don't mind a steep walk-up. Keep your tickets because you can get £10 off entry to each other attraction if you have paid full price for one of them.
Slate mine was really interesting for adults and our young kids. We came prepared with torches for the kids who loved it. There's also a discount for the farm if you combine tickets. Farm.. Great Little farm play for the kids. Probably wouldn't recommend for a rainy day although there is an indoor soft play. We could have spent a good 3 hours here playing but were in a rush to get a late lunch elsewhere.
Very interesting place to visit and prices are reasonable you get to walk around at your own pace you are given safety helmets and you will need them as some of the passageways have low roofs. Lots of information on the boards as you walk around also noise of miners working ,talking with each other and singing. Not really suited to disabled people as the second level has very steep steps down to it.
Really informative and lovely to walk round at our own speed. Gift shop was a pleasant surprise, lots of things to choose from at reasonable price. Cafe I thought was very expensive take a picnic, there are beautiful views to look over when eating.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Interesting location which really illustrates the hardships of the slate workers. Great that this is dog friendly and ideal for a visit in poor weather. Staff very friendly and helpful. Cheese is aged in the underground caverns due to the constant low temperature - we purchased some from the gift shop. We didn't try the on-site cafe but it looked good with great views of the coast.
Small slate caverns but well worth a visit. Great information boards inside, very interesting to learn more about the caverns and miners. We visited with two young children and spent around an hour inside. Recommend buying some of the cheese, from the gift shop, that is matured in one of the caverns - it’s the creamiest cheddar we’ve ever had!
Great visit, plenty of caverns to investigate. Self guided tour with plenty of informative boards. Good gift shop and view from carpark!!
Had a wonderful day at the slate mine and farm park. The caverns are amazing inside and our son loved exploring. The gift shop is fab and well stocked and we even bought some cave aged cheese that they age on site. Then off to the farm park, very accommodating and understanding of our sons service dog, the owners and staff are lovely and helpful. It's a wonderful place for the kiddies, soft play, park, go carts, golf, tunnels to crawl through, animals to stroke and feed and the view of the bay is just stunning. We had a wonderful day here watching our son have so much fun. We will definitely be back!
