Wonderful, homely, family friendly place to stay. Owners Kate and James are all you could ask for as hosts. James is top of his game as chef. Food is top class due in no small way to the effort and skill he uses to make all his own sauces and marinades. It was our second time of staying and we will definitely be back again.

I recently visited this fabulous hotel when I was staying for a work trip, I was blown away by the place!!. The owners are warm and friendly. My room was cosy with lovely extra touches such as homemade flapjack and biscuits on a welcome tray.Very comfortable bed. The bar was warm and cosy with a great ambience. Fab food and wine and lovely continental breakfast all included in price.Forget chain hotels. This place is worth a visit whether for business pleasure. Set in beautiful grounds. Sue - Essex

Very nice B&B, comfortable room and very good breakfast. Nice quiet spot. Lady looking after us very nice and friendly.

Absolutely fantastic service. Comfy bed, great room and great food. Couldn't be more happy and I will be staying here for future business in the area

I have already been told by James he will refute any review i leave I booked this through Tablepouncer and the only terms stated were 30% off total bill. We arrived to be greeted by the lovely lady who served us through the evening sat down in the bar and ordered some drinks and after a bit we were presented with a menu the lady stated "you will be eating from this menu" after looking and finding only 5 mains..2 fish,a pork and a vegi only available to me as the beef was for two...none of which i would have chosen.Having already perused the menu at home i was going to order Venison or Fillet.I stated to the lady i was very disappointed that we had a restricted menu and that nowhere was it stated that this was so.She went away and found i could possibly have duck so still not what i wanted but not wanting to ruin the evening for my wife i ordered Risotto and Northern Cod,the Risotto was lovely but the Cod i thought overcooked and tasteless/under seasoned no matter anyway finished and decided to use the toilet,i was disgusted to see a massive defication spread around the toilet bowl needless to say i was unhappy to see this sight and told James as he had removed his whites and was sitting in the office,we were the only customers and they were obviously not expecting more.His response was at first to tell me i was wrong and after he saw it i suggested that maybe they should check their toilets more often,The response was unbelievable and i walked away in disbeleif and sat down at the table.He then entered and in a raised voice from the other side declared "i have cleaned the toilet for you" in a tone meant to belittle me.I responded and he reentered the dining room four times to continue arguing with me and did not seem to accept any fault,on suggesting that even mcdonalds/weatherspoons have a toilet check procedure he became even more aggressive and suggested i should pay my bill and leave...something i had arranged 5 minutes before.literally worse behavior than Basil Fawlty. The place has gone decidedly downhill over the years and now looks very dated,food is ok but not up to the standard that they purport to serve.Overall the worst experience i have ever had and i as i grew up in hotels and restaurants have been eating out since the age of 6 so well over 40 years.On leaving i happened within minutes to mention my experience to someone and they said that was now the norm there and that James arrogance was almost legendary.I would not recommend this place to an enemy.
