First impressions is this is quite a large church for a small village but the history dates back many years. The highlight is the crypt. A beautiful and peaceful place which predates the existing church. Great pub across the way and an ideal walking area.
This church has some unique external architecture and was originally the site of a monastery in pre-Norman times although the remoteness and lawlessness of the area made it not an ideal spot. The church features Romanesque architecture and a Norman crypt which you are able to visit. This houses various stones such as Celtic crosses. The church is very large inside with high ceilings and is set in its own graveyard with the village probably having developed around it. The church looks well used and is in very good order.
Lovely village , with idyllic church and pub. Would live here if I didn't need both kidneys
I was so enthralled with the crypt that I came back a second time with my brother. We both stood there imagining just how many priests had served at that altar. Very interesting church Left a donation and lit many candles. Beautiful village also and afterwards we had a fabulous lunch at the inn opposite.
Last visited here in the early 1960s. The experience has been enhanced since then. Worth a visit.
I love this village and this church, lovely inside and nice graveyard to see. Pub opposite is well worth a visit.
