Great little pub, really busy but had a lovely seat in the sun! Good food & great pudding! Can't remember our servers name but it was a man, with tattoos and a cap on and he was great & really chatty! Would definitely be returning
Lovely out door seating ..... The women whom the pub is named after will be proud of how popular it is... fish wives carried fish on their heads and walked over the downs from Brighton into Lewes, they were called the juggs.... Very good food and awesome atmosphere .
A wonderful spot. The archetypal ‘British Country Pub’. Always busy, fancy food and pub grub. Huge outdoor area under the trees. Perfect for taking off for a walk on the Downs too. Busy during the week - manic at weekends!
Had the BEST Vegan Sunday Roast!!! Lovely Pub with so many vegan options and friendly staff. I would highly recommend going here.
Recommended. Saw this pub while passing through Monday 1pm-ish and dropped in for lunch. Has a car park which was full. Spaces in the street as well so parked there instead. It was busy but plenty of tables; there are four separate outdoor dining areas, most of which are shaded by trees, umbrellas, or a canopy. Waitress service or at the bar. Very old pub with very low ceilings and doorways. I'm 6'6"and was bent double inside - when I wasn't banging my head! Decent selection of beer, including real ales. We had pink gin and tonic, served with strawberries, plus pint ale shandy both of which were nice. Ate mackerel fillet which comprised four perfectly cooked small fillets, bit of salad and freshly made new potato salad underneath, delicious. Also had large cod and chips, fish was decent but peas bit shriveled from over boiling and chips, meh. Afterwards had cheesecake with apricot compost afterwards and black coffee, again lovely. Staff attentive and helpful. Pewter tankard at bar for tips so made use of that. £49.50 including £3 tip all the change I had, sorry!. Great experience, thank you
UPDATE: I took the doggy roast home with me. Thanks god I hand feed my dog as I found an ELASTIC BAND in it. If she or any other dog had eaten that it could have killed them. It also consisted of pork so fatty it could seriously have given her or any other dog pancreatitis. *********************************************** Deeply saddened by the degrading and humiliating experience I had today from a pub I have been visiting for twenty years Went in for a roast. Asked the chap at the bar if this was possible and was told to find a table and sit down as it was table service. Waited for around 25 mins as the waitress took the orders of everyone around me, some of whom arrived after I did. All of them ordered roasts. Went to the bar to ask, the same chap was then told they had run out of roasts, was very upset and went to leave. They then said I could have a roast with different veg. Had to ask what that was, was told leeks, then ordered a sink as well as this was the first opportunity I had had. This took another ten minutes to arrive. In the meantime the waitress threw cutlery in the table and said ‘there you go’ in a really unfriendly fashion. All of this was highly embarrassing and humiliating as the tables around me were all staring and one of them said ‘so sorry that happened’ I was going back to have side dishes and pudding but chose not to because of the device. When the meal eventually arrived it was devoid of leeks, instead with a leaf thing Kale? and other stone cold veg. There was barely any gravy and three small rock hard roast potatoes. It was also lukewarm at best. I would have asked for gravy but the waitress had disappeared and of course no-one came to check. The meat was flabby and so tasteless I would not have been able to identify it as beef if I had not known. I actually fed it to my dog. She had turned her nose up at the doggy roast she had been served. This was all in stark contrast to the roasts everyone else were consuming around me. A chap on the next table actually had to put gravy off his plate as it was swimming in it! Went to pay and asked to take the service charge off the bill and expressed how it was completely inedible. They were not at all bothered. I left incredibly upset, tears in eyes. Just felt humiliated. It was a real treat for me to have a meal out and I feel cheated of £20 on top of the degrading treatment
Love coming here when visiting lewes. The food is always soooooooo good! The atmosphere and staff really making this little gem worth coming to.
Great pub. Nice beer. Tasty Sunday roast £15 with all the trimmings. Also dog friendly, including a £3.50 doggy roast.
Lovely evening at The Juggs. Service was friendly and attentive, it was all well priced and the food was excellent. We both had sirloin steaks which were cooked how we wanted them perfectly, with a side of onion rings and a dessert each. We were sat in front of the bar at the front which had a proper traditional pub feel to it. We will definitely be returning, thank you.
Best Sunday roast I’ve had in a very long time. Nut roast and roast pork both sublime. Lovely old pub - we sat next to the large fireplace. They were extremely busy on a Sunday and I could see some of the walk-in trade were disappointed not to be able to get a table but it really is the sort of place you need to book in advance if you want to be guaranteed to sit down and eat, especially at the best tables inside. We will definitely be back.
