Fantastic and quirky pub. I dropped in on a cold Tuesday morning and they had a roasting fire going and a good turn out. The pub is packed with character - even the toilets look like they came from a Victorian mansion! They have pigmy goats in the large beer garden and plenty of comfy seats, great selection of drinks and a menu for everyone.
Love this place. I’ve only ever been for drinks so cannot comment on the food, however the do appear to have vegan and vegetarian options. Really enjoyed having drinks here, whether a morning/afternoon coffee or a cocktail or glass of wine in the evening. There is a lovely big garden terrace area. The staff are very friendly and professional.
I was so disappointed by my last visit at the Jacob's inn. This pub has been a favorite for years and I hadn't been for a couple years COVID,etc. Maybe the owners have changed but the roast was really poor quality, no yorkshire pudding, no parsnips, roast potatoes had probably been done earlier in the day as they were really dry, the beef was tough and my friend couldn't eat his porc. The service was pretty bad, my friend had to stand up to the bar twice to ask for our drinks and if we could order. Only reason why I put 2 stars is because I used to love this place and they also gave us a discount on the bill as we were so disappointed with our meal.
We had a nice meal here. There is a nice atmosphere inside with all different antique items placed around the pub. The food itself was well presented. The Caesar Salad was particularly large and the Guinea Fowel was tasty. Service was quick and we didn't have to wait long for our food at all. The staff were courteous and polite too. Two things I would mention are the Eton Mess could have had more strawberries on it. Also a service charge of 12.5% was automatically added to the bill for four people. We did tip, but would like to choose our own amount.
Nice and cozy pub. The fish I had was phenomenal. They also have a backyard with goats and chickens!Food: 5/5
Absolutely fabulous Sunday lunch the said starter was good and crispy the lamb with roast potatoes, cabbage, parsnips and roast carrots and then an excellent Yorkshire pudding as a Yorkshireman it does pain me to say it was better than many I have had in Yorkshire. The desert was lemon Tarte it was great with raspberries and vanilla ice cream, all in all a great meal and I would recommend to anyone.
A bit disappointed about the service especially given the fairly high prices. The staff were really friendly and super nice but clearly inexperienced and made several errors with our order. The food itself was very good. The Christmas decorations were tasteful and the pub had a cosy atmosphere. To be honest though it's the high price that would stop us going back, on top of that an "optional" 12.5% service charge was automatically added to our bill which at first I thought was fair enough as we wanted to split the bill for our group of 11 which I know is hassle for them but it turns out they can't do this so we all had to go though the menu and work it out ourselves, fortunately it all worked out OK.
Went for a gathering of 18 friends and as a result of the large group I think we were put in the outside marquee. This was the main downfall. On a cold day it really wasn't a pleasant place to be. Uneven ground, uncomfortable chairs and a constant draft sort of makes you want to leave rather than enjoy it. Food was okay. We all had Sunday roasts which were of varying temperature and quality. Everything on my plate had clearly been sat around for a while so was luke warm and the potatoes had gone hard. Service wasn't bad. Pretty attentive although the off mistake made. Frustrated that we specifically requested and were told in advance we would get a high chair. Arrived to be told they were all being used. Wouldn't go back in a hurry. Overall much nicer places on the edge of Oxford.
I usually love all food - but the food here was gross. First of all I am a vegetarian and I asked for a veggie burger but with no bun as I am gluten free, I asked if they could do a side salad instead. I got a burger with no bun and chips - the burger tasted awful I had to send it back… the next thing I tried was also awful it had an old oil taste. The staff were all having lunch when we finished and it took ages to pay. Honestly I would never go back, expensive and awful!
We went to Jacobs Inn as it was highly recommended. The waiting staff were friendly, but the experience was totally ruined when I was served a dessert containing gluten to which I am allergic not once, but twice. There was clearly miscommunication between the kitchen and waiting staff; I was served the wrong dessert - the waiting staff swapped this immediately for another which was apparently gluten free - I was left to eat this new one, only to be told after I’d eaten it that another mistake had been made and the second dessert also contained gluten. I’ve had to have 2 days off work due to having an allergic reaction. We were given 50% off the bill, but this was no where near enough compensation for the problems caused. Would not recommend this pub if you have any kind of allergy as the staff clearly have not been trained in the seriousness of this issue. Dietary restrictions: No apparent awareness of the seriousness of giving customers food containing allergens.
