The Hungarian Museum is nestled amongst the absolutely stunning grounds of the university of Glasgow. The university itself might as well be a museum because of its incredible architecture and historic importance. There are a few different museums on the university grounds and while they’re not all massive, they are large and you can definitely spend an hour or more at each one. These spaces are well curated and it’s pretty incredible that they’re available to everyone for free. Thank you to the university and thank you to the city of Glasgow for an incredible experience!
This museum is incredible. I loved seeing the cool dinosaurs and the ancient Egyptian artefacts. It also features cool animals and unique specimens. We found the displays breathtaking and they offer something for everyone who are interested in history of ancient times. You must visit if you are in Glasgow; it is a fantastic experience. And the architect there is also superb, great for photography.
The Hunterian isn't just a museum; it's the beating, eclectic heart of the University of Glasgow's public identity. As Scotland's oldest public museum founded 1807, housed within the university's iconic Gothic Revival main building, it offers an experience that is both profoundly scholarly and wonderfully weird.nA grand, scholarly cabinet of curiosities. Ancient Roman relics, glittering geological specimens, Kelvin’s scientific instruments, and profound medical history share space under majestic Gothic arches. The atmosphere is one of quiet, awe-inspired discovery—a tangible link to the Enlightenment, housed in the university's historic heart.nA free, self-guided adventure through history and science. Wander from dinosaurs to Roman coins in stunning Gothic halls. It feels like exploring the brilliant, eclectic mind of the university itself—intellectual, surprising, and deeply atmospheric. A perfect museum for the curious.nEntry is free except for The Mackintosh House. It’s the perfect cultural interlude during a visit to the university. Allow at least 90 minutes to do it justice.nA five-star gem. More intimate than Kelvingrove but bursting with importance and character, The Hunterian offers a uniquely Glasgow blend of Gothic grandeur and enlightened curiosity. It’s not a side attraction to the university; it is one of the university's greatest gifts to the city.nHighly recommended!
The Hunterian Museum at the University of Glasgow is a fascinating place to visit! It beautifully combines science, art, and history in one space. The exhibits are well-presented and tell amazing stories about medicine, nature, and archaeology. The building itself is stunning, and the atmosphere is calm and inspiring. Definitely worth a visit — and it’s free!
I’ve been wanting to visit here for years! Took me a while to actually find the place as it’s not well signposted but after a few wrong turns I found it. It’s not big and only took about an hour to look at the items, some of which are fascinating. I popped across the road to the art gallery too which I loved.
