Worst surgery I’ve used and we are trying to register elsewhere currently. The appointment system is purposely difficult; I’ve regularly had to call over 200 times to get through, only for a staff member to advise all appointments are gone and I should try calling earlier. Extremely unhelpful when you’ve been calling since opening hours at 8am. To combat this I asked for access to online booking. For this you need to attend in person to collect and also hand in the application form. Reception are unable to use a common sense approach and told me I couldn’t also hand in my husbands form for him, he had to attend to do this. I advised he works away so asked them to call him and encouraged them to check his records for his phone number to verify everything. After being told “I will lose my job if I do that” they reluctantly checked with the practice manager who authorised the set up as a “gesture of good will”. If and when you do get through, prepare to be told you need to attend the Hospital with your concerns; I have been told on more than one occasion “I can’t help you there as I’m not a specialist” with an ongoing concern I had been attending with. I’ve had to raise a complaint when I called to request speaking to a doctor re my blood results and the receptionist took it upon herself to read them aloud to me over the phone and tell me they were low. They weren’t but I then had to complete the same process to get an appointment for reassurance from a doctor who advised of the correct results. On another occasion I attended for my bloods taking and the nurse who collected me said she had just felt faint; I asked if she was okay and she said she will try keep a steady hand. She didn’t sanitise my arm prior to taking bloods and clearly wasn’t well enough to be in work. I can’t place enough emphasis on how stressful it is to deal with this practice; I did however have one positive encounter with an experienced nurse in 2021 who was very compassionate and helpful.
It's simply not fit for purpose. There's a lots of comments on local online community groups talking about how bad Hillbrow is but it's not until you need help you realise how true these comments are. I've been registered with them for 6 years and only needed to see a doctor once. This morning it took me 400 calls and 2 hours of time including being put on hold for 20 minutes to finally get through to someone to be told they couldn't help me, not even a call back from a doctor was available. Our family are moving to another local surgery.
Been awful at getting through without the phone being enaged for a long time now. Finally got through after 206 calls to be told no appointments and to call 111 and then theyll be able to get me an appointment so thats what i did. And low and behold when 111 refer me back to doctors they still wont give me an appointment. I wouldnt usually be this angry but im in alot of pain and have found a huge lump/mass in my stomach. Im scared and have two children to take care of by myself so i cant go to a&e. Ridiculous medical negligence.
Was called for a medication review but wasn't able to get an appointment for 6 days, then when I did there were no doctors avaliable so I now have to go another few days without my usual medication. 6 days without it and they just said they will issue some in the next 3 days. Absolute joke. If you rely on daily medication, don't attend this practice. A vets would be better
Constantly not being referred to people like they tell me I would, booking system is a joke, multiple times not calling me even when I'm on 'call list' after calling 300+ times to get through. Not called back when about my children too, when they claim they can't turn them away yet we are waiting for calls.
Superb service, had a spider bite and the staff saw me just before closing time to avoid a trip to a&e. Antibiotics prescribed and now fully healed. The staff were professional and flexible in allowing me to see a GP without an official appointment.
Trying to speak to a receptionist is a nightmare. There is long waiting times to get to position 1 in the queue, before you can leave any details. You can only get to speak with a receptionist in the afternoon, by that time there is no appointments left. It is not a health service any more it is a stress service
I appreciate that we have an unusual situation at the moment but after trying constantly for over 30 minutes to call them and getting the engaged tone I do wonder if anyone ever answers calls. I phoned 111 about something that is causing me a lot of pain and they have referred me to the surgery and told me to call them but I can't even get in a queue to speak to a receptionist who then decides if the doctor should call me. I hardly ever go to the doctors but when i need them it would be nice if I could actually contact them.
It takes a long time to get through to the surgery but I have found the reception staff to be helpful, the medical/nursing staff friendly and professional and caring. I thoroughly recommend Hillbrow Surgery. I was going to give 4 stars rather than 5 just for the struggle to get through to reception. That said, they take their time to listen to my concerns when I’m on the phone so presume this is what they’re doing with others, hence the wait. Extenely thankful they have worked right through the pandemic and continue to do so in these stressful times.
I originally joined their practice after a recommendation and they are the best doctors I have ever had. First appointment I received meds for nerve pain that doctors all over the UK had told me did not exist. Since then Dr Wallace left but recommended Dr Sandica and she is fab. Always felt supported with complex conditions and can always get an appointment. Yes sometimes it takes a bit to get through on the phone but its always manageable. I'd never leave this practice absolutely brilliant.
