Good food and well-priced in a stylish pub atmosphere in the heart of Shrewsbury. We couldn't fault our meals in this place - I had the best bangers and mash I've enjoyed for a while and my partner had the most gourmet-looking fish finger sandwich I have ever seen. The decor is quite high-end for a city pub, and where we were sitting in the conservatory had more of a restaurant feel which I liked. The only downsides were the over-complicated menu and how long we took to be served. The menu has a 'British tapas' theme, and sections that can be ordered all day or part of the day, or overlapping parts of the day. The evening menu is considerably more 'gourmet' than the daytime menu, although the type of food is broadly similar. The pub was busy when we were there, but even taking that into consideration it took far too long to be served our food. So only 4 stars. One final thing to be aware of - the pork belly looked delicious, but not one to order if you're hungry as the portion size was tiny! Still it was the only 'duff' meal in an otherwise excellent spread.

Great venue. Good beer, food tasty and only slightly pretentious (the duck lollipop was pleasant enough to dispel the thought that "I'm eating a thing described as a duck lollipop"). Live music downstairs sometimes or ticketed concerts in a great upstairs room. Lots of exposed wood and beams and a spiral staircase add to the upscale ambience. Not sure about those paintings though. Great comedy venue.

Very nice place. Food is totally authentic. We had fish n chips... best tartar sauce so far and mini burgers and meat pies. Less authentic atmosphere...kinda hip but still very old pub. Great service too. Wish we found it earlier on our visit to Shrewsbury.

Out of four people two enjoyed the food one thought it was average and one didn't like it. We had three courses that all took a long time to come out, two hours to serve three courses and then they wanted us to move tables as they needed the table back at 8 which I thought was unreasonable as it was their fault that we wasn't done in the allocated two hours. Also each time we ordered drinks they took a long time to come to us. Overall I expected a lot better from this place, it's not the cheapest of places to eat, they should really be on top of situation like this. Maybe they was just having a bad day however we won't be going back to find out unfortunately as we are spoilt for choice in the local area.

Fantastic afternoon tea for tea. Special gluten free fare for my wife on her birthday. Rarely does she get to eat cake and nice sandwiches (Coeliac will know what l mean). HTH couldn't have done anymore to make the day special. Thank you.
