Story

Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust, that runs Heartlands Hospital and the Birmingham Chest Clinic, is one of the largest hospital Trusts in England.

The Trust also runs Solihull Hospital, Community Services and Good Hope Hospital in Sutton Coldfield as well as a number of smaller satellite units enabling people to be treated as close to home as possible.

The Hyper Acute Stroke Unit at Heartlands Hospital sees 43% more patients admitted to a specialist stroke bed within four hours to receive the lifesaving care they need in the first 72 hours after a stroke.

It’s also a regional centre for severe asthma and renal conditions, recently celebrating 50 years of providing dialysis treatment.
As one of the region’s most research active hospitals, doctors and other medical staff are involved in more than 500 active projects aiming to find new and better ways of treating patients.

The maternity unit supported over 6,300 births in 2015/16. Both the Neonatal unit and Maternity team have shown their commitment to providing parents with the best possible care to build close and loving relationships with their baby and to feed them in ways which will support optimum health and development, with Baby Friendly UNICEF recognition.

Birmingham Chest Clinic is situated in the very heart of Birmingham city centre, and offers a series of specialist services to patients including, allergy services, chest x-rays, general lung disease, rapid access for suspected lung cancer, occupational lung disease, thoracic surgery and tuberculosis.

Worst Birmingham hospital. Had to visit A&E early morning and was seen by a nurse who while asking questions from us was continually arguing with her fellow nurse. They discharged me forcefully while I was suffering from the exact amount of pain and told me to rest. I later had to call an ambulance who took me to Warwick hospital, who are thankfully compassionate enough to take me seriously and helped me feel better.
Had an amazing experience here. I gave birth to my twins in May after an elective c section and the maternity department was amazing. The midwives looked after me really well and supported me in all that I needed
Doctors told me to go to the hospital , waited for 8 hours , only to be told to take ibruprofen when i had breathing issues and no one took me seriously. I think it was a student doctor asking me questions unprofessionally and I wasn’t able to properly show my throat because she kept forcing the stick into my throat and never was patient with me. She also left the doors open when inspecting me and asking me questions which left no privacy so everyone could look in at me , this is honestly so unprofessional to leave a student doctor with a patient alone AND INSPECTING ME WITHOUT A SUPERVISOR. Honestly i’m so disappointed in this and I was hoping someone would actually take me seriously or atleast help out and give some medication but they just left me empty handed and left with nothing and I am still suffering with the same problem today.
Do not expect to find a parking space. Really, don’t! Spent so long in the car park, never found a space - my appointment had to abandoned so I could return to work. Had to pay for a ticket just to leave. People park extremely irresponsibly as well. Very careless and aggressive drivers in this area of Birmingham. I’d have to take 3 buses to get there if relying on public transport. Got there early to avoid being late as I have a genuine health concern. Took time out of my day and couldn’t attend.
SAU unit heartlands hospital. Honestly zero stars with the long wait it’s ridiculous, staff complain Infront of patients and just walk around and see one patient every two hours. Don’t chase up on test or reassure patients once. We are in pain and I’ve been here 10hours pulse. I’m sure my bloods didn’t travel aboard and are in the same building? Please do better and staff your hospital better- super sad and in pain
By far the most worst hospital I have ever visited, was taken in an ambulance around 4am and then was referred to SDEC around 9am and was finally seen to by doctors around 3/4pm and left around 6pm. Majority of the nurses was rude, lack of empathy, some were kicking of with each other… when you ask a question they show attitude or roll their eyes. Majority of staff does not want to be there. Staff don’t care how ill you are and how long you have been there for your just another number to them. Only good thing doctors are quite knowledgeable and take there time to listen to your concerns. But if your in a lot of pain and it’s an emergency be prepared for a 14 hour wait.
After coming back off holiday, my partner was taken ill with a possible pulmonary embolism. She was advised by her doctor to go to Heartlands and something called SDEC, same day emergency centre instead of A&E. After waiting nearly 4 hours for a trauma assessment, we were then sent to another waiting room for another 3 hours. Then another before finally getting a scan after over 10 hours waiting. After just over 11 hours , she got the all-clear. We weren't the only people waiting that long. Some people were there for over 14 hours waiting. I'm not sure what SDEC,s purpose is. Just an extension of A&E or something else, but whatever it is, it's a complete failure to the patients and its poor staff members. It really needs sorting out. It's only on coming home, we found a friend had also been there 2 days earlier and had to wait 22 hours to be seen. Disgraceful
My wife dialled 999 for a ambulance she was told it would be quicker to make your own way there this was a joke whats the point of the advert FAST to act quickly and seek help.i went into bhh on Wednesday 4th/09/24 on a&e was waiting 11 hours with a suspected stroke. I was then moved to the mau unit where I was treated like cattle no compassion my bed wasn't changed for 4 days and only when my wife spoke to a hca it was changed, I was on mau for 4 days on Fri 6th/09/24 I spoke to a nurse just to say I was going to have a shower she abruptly replied well you better hurry up because someone might need the toilet and considering I had a suspected stroke and had no feeling on one side I feel so humiliated then after 4 days on mau I was then moved onto ward 20 mould on the ward on walls and ceiling in the corridor there was a bucket and wet towels as the roof was leaking HEALTH AND SAFETY there was no such thing the toilets were filthy no hand soap or toilet roll was very scarce, nurses were rude and not caring at all and the food is vile and not fit for purpose also the public toilets in the hospital were filthy urine soaking on the floor no hand soap absolutely awful AVOID THIS PLACE SHOULD BE CLOSED DOWN ABSOLUTELY SHOCKING I didn't want to give 1 star but I had to select at least 1 to post this review
Staff are amazing, but my review is for the food. Why do they serve curry for lunch and dinner everyday? Why not sweet and sour chicken? It also has to be halal. Doesn't seem right. Need more options for food.
Our Daughter had to go to Heartlands hospital today as she fell off her horse and broke her ankle, I just wanted to say heartlands Hospital sometimes gets bad reviews but I just want to say how absolutely fabulous they were today, they work so hard, our experience was excellent from start to finish even though we had a wait tbh not long the staff were absolutely amazing and no matter how busy they were they were there to answer questions and made us feel like you were being looked after, absolutely lovely nurses, the NHS gets such a bad reputation but these guys work so hard and I am so grateful for them being there and show there love & care, also a big shout out to Adele at Solihull hospital, we went there first and to save us waiting she sent us to heartlands as she knew we’d be sent there anyways this saved us so much time x
