We were quickly directed to a table with sofa chairs. Graham is attentive and staff came around after each course to ask if everything was fine. Food was well presented and quality was high. We like the menu with calories indicated. Ambience is good with noise keeps to the minimum as the set up is good with tables reasonably at good distance.
Welcome was nice and friendly the service after that was pretty poor. The waiter himself was alright in his manner but it seems like he wasn't trained. He took our orders fine however I had asked for a jug of water for the table which never appeared. He never came back once during our meal to ask if all was OK or to offer drinks. After the main we asked for the dessert menu, he bought literally one menu for the 3 of us, after some time too long he then just walked past the table and took the menu without asking if we wanted a dessert, he didn't even look at us....by this point the whole experience was becoming funny! I would have had a dessert and drink if I'd been asked but after a while we gave in got his attention and paid. The meals themselves were nice however the portion of peas that came with the fish and chips were hilarious genuinely laughed out loud!, there was more tartar sauce on each plate, literally more sauce!! The sauce and peas came in the same tiny bowls sauce bowls! Maybe if the restaurant was busy all of this could have been forgiven but it was no where near busy. All 3 of us said we wouldn't visit again which is a shame because the actual restaurant itself is really nice.
We had the table in the alcove which I’d requested and it was lovely. Jake was our waiter and he was so attentive, nothing was too much trouble. Jake made our night very easy and enjoyable. The food was delicious as was the wine and when we asked for 6 baby Guinness at the end of the night again, no trouble and they were brought over by Jake. A fab night with great staff and food. We’ll be back! Please thank Jake for his great service, he told us he was new to the pub but this didn’t show at all. 10/10
The staff were extremely helpful in supporting us with the use of the meeting room, setting it up, providing water, heaters and equipment. Our attendees booked rooms, to stay, as they had travelled from London. They loved the venue, were pleased with and commented on the service, and are re-booking for a future meeting. Staff accommodated our orders of drinks and food at the times to work for us in within the meeting too. Being local we wanted to support a local business and we are pleased that we did because it was great. Thank you
We stopped off here on the way home for food. They was amazing and very accommodating to us and our children. Our two kids are not the quietest but they was amazing here. They was given a little colour sheet and crayons. The food was amazing and very filling. The prices for us all to have starters, mains and desserts with a drink came under £100 which I thought was amazing!. Definitely want to return here but just with my husband.
Lovely setting with original beams in places. No place mats, so my plate was sliding when cutting my beef, which was delicious. Vegetables were under cooked for my personal taste tbf. Desert served without utensils so we had to ask for some. The hot sauce was like warm. 'Background' music was too loud, again, for my personal preferences. Others may disagree. Overall, very pleasant, bright, lovely staff and no long waits.
Lovely food and atmosphere, the only thing letting the evening down was the 2 gentlemen serving us. The main one serving us seemed nice enough but was very quiet, never smiled and did not come to our table regularly to ask us if we would like more drinks or if everything was OK. When I asked for another drink he said yes and scurried off without checking what everyone else wanted. I ended up going to the bar to get drinks when we wanted them. He also didn’t come to ask us if we would like dessert so we didn’t bother having any. The other gentleman serving seemed extremely tired and wouldn’t stop yawning.
A few years ago this was a great pub with a simple but very good menu, especially a lunch time light bite. The menu has now become too fusy / fancy and from my recent visits the pub is a lot quieter than it use to be. I think the food and change of menu is the biggest factor. The pub is well decorated and has a good choice of beers with a heated seating area outside. If the menu returned back to the classic pub grub I would visit more often.
Room was well appointed and large. Staff were friendly and attentive. Only booked for the one night but it'd be a great place to stay for far longer. Next time I'm up that way I'll certainly visit for food and a pint, if I need to stay in the area again, I wouldn't hesitate to book a room here again.
We held our annual staff party on Friday evening and the feedback that I received from the staff was glowing! The atmosphere was warm and welcoming and the live music was entertaining without being intrusive. The food was fantastic quality and very well received by the staff. Thank you to everyone who helped to make it such a fantastic evening.
