Disinterested staff welcome you, followed by a 20 minute wait that delivered stale, pale dried up cold chips and a greasy fish. I have been trying various fish and chip shops from the Scottish West Coast all the way to Orkney, and this ranks as being the worst by a long way. I'd suggest this may be aimed at the tourists and that you would do well to try one of the other chippies for your fish supper that are outwith the centre.
Was into the Harbour Fry in Kirkwall and as I was going in a troop of Americans had just come off cruise ship and the chip shop was full with customers which is great sign. The team are amazing and provide great service and are very friendly. The chips are real and made on the day and the batter is nice and light. I would highly recommend going in for the fish and chips.
I have been going to HF for years and always liked the food and service. But the last few months the quality of both have plummeted. I tried them again tonight and think this will be the last time. The portion of chips I got was almost all chip-shrapnel that tasted like nothing but the oil they were cremated in, and just left your mouth feeling slick with oil. The fish was okay but the batter was nothing like it used to be. I also ordered a meat patty, but I got battered haggis. It was dry, and the batter covering it was sparse.nThe boys behind the counter were professional, but looked like they were out of their depth and a little lost. They seem to have done the best they could with the tools and training they have been given.nSeems that ever since the business went on the market to be sold, the service and food has gone downhill. Doesn’t seem like the owners really care how it does anymore. Time to find a new fish and chip place on the island for Friday night chippy tea.
We decided to try this place as a local on the ferry was raving about it and told us to try patties here. Now we've been to plenty of chippies before, so generally we knew what to expect, but this was well below par. Everything was super greasy, the fries only tasted like oil and the patties tasted like nothing. The service was friendly and the price was decent, hence avoiding 1*, but I wouldn't eat here again or recommend anyone try it.
Good place to dine in or to takeaway. In my case, I think it was 11,60£ to dine in a fish and chips. I found it good and not too expensive. I can recommend it.
