“I had a very disappointing experience at this gym. It is extremely overcrowded, and the machines are placed too close to each other, leaving no space to move around comfortably. Cleanliness is a major issue—both the gym floor and the showers are not well-maintained. Additionally, the staff is rude, and the personal trainers do not have a welcoming attitude. While the gym is fully equipped, the overall atmosphere and lack of cleanliness make it an unpleasant place to work out. I hope management takes steps to improve these issues.”
I recently visited Gymbox on a day pass and I'm thrilled with my experience. The facilities are excellent, with state-of-the-art equipment and a variety of classes.nnHowever, the highlight is the amazing staff, especially the Manager, James Crew.nnJames was incredibly welcoming and helpful taking the time to understand my fitness goals and provided valuable advice as I was returning to training following an injury.nnI couldn’t recommend Gymbox Elephant & Castle enough to anyone looking for a great place to work out in the area.nnWith welcoming Front of House, caring and knowledgeable Manager, great gym equipment, spacious and well maintained changing facilities and a friendly welcoming atmosphere.nnI’m looking forward to my next visit and to joining as a Member.
The gym is ok but extremely under equipped for the price - e.g. only 1 smith machine and no seated hamstring curl.nMembership numbers keep increasing and it’s extremely hard to find available equipment during peak times.nFor some reason they have all of the classes running at the same times in the evening, so sometimes there’s nowhere to warm up/stretch.nHopefully it improves with the new ownership.nIf you don’t need a sauna the new “The Gym” near by is probably a better option.
This is the closest gym to my house, so it was a natural choice for me to join, but here's why I didn't this is my experience, and my opinion:nYou're expected to join without trying the gym first, if you want to try it, you can pay for a £20 day pass which they will take off your joining fee. To get the day pass online you need to fill in all your personal details. When I arrived, I then had to fill in all those details again on a sheet of paper. That was mildly irking.nThen I was sent in, no mention of anywhere I couldn't use, or if towels were included or not as a result I didn't take a towel. I was then trying different machines, and while on the treadmill, I was told by a trainer that was being used by a class and I had to get off. There was no sign or anything to say this before I got on, and it was not inside the studio. In the defence of the trainer, he was very polite, and as soon as the class was over, he came and found me to say I could use it now. What bothers me is how was I to know it was being used by a class in the next room?nI was then phoned a week later to ask if I'd like to join. I expected more from a Gymbox, and so did not join.
I used to really enjoy this gym, but lately, the lack of membership control has been a major issue. It’s always overcrowded, even during mid-day when you’d expect it to be quieter. I find myself constantly waiting for equipment, no matter what time I go. It seems like the gym is prioritizing profit over providing a good experience for its members. For the price you pay, it’s becoming less and less worth it.nnAlso, why do they have 10 cross-trainers but only 2 stairmasters, which are almost always in use? You end up waiting forever just for one. I’ve mentioned this issue before, but it hasn’t been addressed.
