I drove into central York once mostly by mistake and it is not an experience I would ever wish to repeat. A street plan that was never intended to accomodate cars just did not agree with me. Now I always use the Park and Ride service whenever I visit and it has never let me down yet. Frequent buses are clean and well maintained, as is the terminal building.nGet yourself a seat upstairs at the front if you can and enjoy free panoramic views of the streets as you go. And for the Sci fi fans out there keep an eye out for the Daleks and Cybermen on top of the NISA building, best visible on the return leg of the journey.
I was staying at Yorkway Motel and asked the Barman where the best place to park in York was to do the city walking tour? He told me none of the locals drove in, they use the park and ride. It was a great suggestion and so easy. It was 5 minutes by car from the hotel, there was lots of parking and it was £3.90 return fare. The busses are all electric and I had a really interesting chat with the driver on the way back. It is a no brainer to take the bus and not go through the stress of driving in York and paying high parking fees. Highly recommended and thanks to the conductor who sold me the ticket and the two drivers.
Great park and ride.nEasy to find.nWell sign posted.nWe drove from Skipsea to Grimston Bar to park and catch the bus into York.nToilets at the site.nThe bus was there waiting for us.nFriendly driver greeted us as we got on and paid for our tickets.nThere were York maps on the bus that included the park and ride map of where the bus stops were. Really handy.nWe were dropped right in the middle of York close to the attractions and sights.nWe got the bus at the same stop, there was a massive queue as it was 4pm and most people were leaving York. We all managed to get on the double decker bus and another bus was pulling up as we were leaving.nLots of parking available.nWould definitely use this service again to visit York.nI would recommend the river cruise in York and a visit to Rolys fudge and the shambles street - go early this street gets busy probably the fudge samples
Worth using Park & Ride for York to reduce the volume of traffic in this historic city and make it easier to get in and out.nnEach Park & Ride has a different route check the Park & Ride Website so you can choose either your nearest or the one that takes you nearer where you want to go.nnFrequency - every 10-15 minutes. Can be a little longer if traffic is heavy.nnPrice various:nSingle and returns.nConcession, small charge, your issued with a single ticket, keep it and show it to the driver on your return it acts as a return ticket, but you also need to tap your Concession card.nnAccessibility - good, plenty of parking for the disabled. Bus platform is level with the pavements. Spaces for wheelchair users rights and prams on the bus. Toilet for the disabled.nnCar Parking - free, plenty of spaces including parking for disabled. Check closure time as there is a hefty release fee £50 - early 2019!nnTourist Guide and Map - at the Park & Ride and on the bus. Includes map of the City Center, the Park & Ride Routes, places to visit, shop and eat.nnStaff - always found the Bus drivers very friendly and helpful.nnToilets - including for the disabled. Bus frequency good, so if you need to go!
So impressed with the service. Wanted to visit York,so came to the park and ride. £4.00 return, buses run every 10 minutes,couldn't of been better.
