A good, old-fashioned style of pub in a beautiful setting on the banks of the Oxford canal. A good range of cask and keg beers all in excellent condition. The menu consists of a wide selection of food from sandwiches to main meals. There is also a selection of daily specials. A warm welcome awaits and the service is swift and friendly. The quality of the food and drink does however come at a price. For example scampi and chips at over £14.

We came here for Sunday lunch to celebrate a number of close family birthdays. We were a party of 12, including 5 children & 1 baby. The food is amazing, it can’t be argued. The fish courses were fresh & tasty, the roasts very well proportioned with good gravy. However, the service has a lot to be desired. We had to ask on separate occasions for menus, drinks, desert menus & the bill. When apologetic service did arrive, it seemed we were asking for something extraordinary. It’s not a lot to ask to have at least a smile or enthusiasm. Smaller parties did seem to have better luck, so I would recommend looking elsewhere if you’re in a larger party. It’s a shame as the pub seems great!

We went to Great Western for lunch to celebrate a birthday I booked a table prior to Sunday. On arrival welcomed by friendly and courteus staff shown to our table. The atmosphere was warm and friendly and not in the least intrusive. The log fire lifted the spirits and improved the ambience. We were given the.menu and ordered. The food arrived and was plentiful and beautiful. In all I recommend this establishment as it has a menu for all.

Food in restaurant really really lovely, staff pleasant and great ale choice. Our accommodation here was hugely disappointing, awful damp problem with mould up the walls leaving the room stinking. Made my asthma exceptionally bad for 2 weeks after our stay, needed steriods. Stains on linen, door to bathroom broken. Cobwebs and dust on walls. Managed to get to sleep despite stench of damp only to be woken by the kitchen staff laughing and chatting for an age right outside our window at past midnight, despite knowing there were guests staying. Then couldn't sleep again and exhausted for friends wedding following day. Breakfast lovely but extortionate.

Nice rooms to stay in but felt so rushed whilst eating there. Been there twice and on both occasions felt that we were being rushed to finish our food. Would not eat there again because of this although the food is good.
