Lovely village pub that serves excellent food and has lovely staff. We stopped for lunch and sat in the dog friendly bar, the staff were very friendly and helpful and took our orders promptly. The food was delicious and well cooked, between us we had a boneless bacon chop, bangers and mash, steak pie and fish and chips. The only issue was that the battery in the fish was a little thick, but it was all eaten so couldn't have been that bad. We will definitely be going back.
Thank you so much for the lovely evening we had. 17/3 We were celebrating my mums birthday and this was her first one without my dad since she was 16! Food was delicious and the staff were polite and helpful. We didn’t feel rushed to get out and the atmosphere was lovely, even when we had a blip with a child’s meal the chef dealt with it and made the child very happy… puddings here are amazing! The candle in the ice cream for my mum was a lovely touch.
Lovely. I lived near this pub for almost 20 years and had never been. Admittedly I'd have been too young for most of that 20 years but that's beside the point. Anyway on one of my regular meet ups with my old primary school pals this venue ended up the place of choice. My 3 friends all went for the lasagne and I opted for the hunters chicken. Mine came with chips and salad and was perfect. Portion size was spot on for me. My friends lasagne came with a garlic bread which was stunning, but they were filling. They ordered sides of fries but all were stuffed with the food. Service was spot on. Venue was perfect. Although busy with drinkers on a Friday night it wasn't rowdy in the slightest in the restaurant area. Food and drink prices were average. Yes an enjoyable evening had by all and would definitely return
Absolutely disgusting. We arrived at 1 today to meet family. No fire lit no heating on, so we sat with our coats on. Homemade pie is not home made it a cheap frozen pie that comes with a few frozen chips and a spoonful of peas!!!! Steak sandwich on a sourdough baguette was not as described. Under staffed unclean. I recommend you stay well away.
Saturday night. Suggested we went into the 'bar area'. It was quite bright so felt like we were intruding on the 3 or 4 groups already there. No fire on and no music on so the atmosphere felt a little uncomfortable. It was about 9pm but not the best way to spend a saturday night. Was a bit cool so we had our drink and left.
We ate here a few weeks ago and it was quite nice so just went back for a Sunday roast and it was awful. I got the butternut and lentil wellington which has basically no butternut in it and tasted like a curry, very strange combo with a roast. My Husband had pork belly and it was so fatty most of it wasn’t edible. The roasties were not cooked enough either. The only saving grace was the Cauli cheese which was lovely. It took them 40 mins to bring the food out too so very disappointing! Don’t think they we will be going back.
Such an amazing little find, we originally just came to the area to go to Castle Hill and wanted lunch. It was like a little home from home, the food was delicious and the people were super friendly, we got talking and ended up staying much later than intended but felt like part of the village family dispite not being local
Lovely pub. Serves food, good selection of beer, large carpark and outside seating. Always stop off here after visiting Castle Hill.
Booked in for a Boxing Day meal for two people. Having visited when it was under previous management we hoped that it had maintained its high standards and we weren’t disappointed. Served an excellent, piping hot meal which was home cooked and tasted delicious. Very friendly and helpful staff who made every effort to make us welcome, especially Nicola. Thank you for making our meal special. We will definitely be visiting again.
My partner and I found this place last week after seeking shelter from the rain and were quickly warmly greeted with a smile and sat down for a few drinks. We came back yesterday for Sunday lunch and the food we ordered was extraordinary! Both the nut roast as well as the beef one were delectable and the cauliflower cheese was a fantastic side. Desserts and drinks were incredible as well but nothing topped the outstanding service we received by every single member of staff. Thank you all so much for welcoming two Londoners and making their trip to the West Yorkshire countryside ever so special yesterday. :
