Stunning views. Beautiful decor inside. The staff were very friendly. The food was fabulous we couldn't fault it. Well done . This is a must for anyone in the area. We stayed here for one night as a stop over to Scotland. The reception staff were friendly and efficient. The pod was so cool! It fit 3 grown adults comfortably and the heating worked perfectly to keep us warm on a cold night under floor heating at the pods. Heated up quickly as it was a small and compact pod. The view in the morning was stunning. Overall, great experience and we would love to stay again. Thank you Golden Ball Hotel. J,B and F
We booked ahead and came for a family lunch on Christmas Eve, having never been to the pub I was interested to see what was on offer after the new owners took over and opened the pub back up earlier in 2022. The pub offers main meals and basket meals at £8 each or £10 with selected drinks. Two of us picked a basket meal, sausages and chips, and tempura vegetables with chips. The other order was for a risotto. Waitress was pleasant and prompt. The views are pretty amazing from the restaurant area and I can imagine in summer this would be very popular! Food came within good time, and we were amazed at the portion sizes for the basket meals which you'd think naturally would be smaller. They certainly were not. The risotto was a good portion, too. None of us managed to finish our food as there was a lot for us for lunch. Food was food and I'd say tour homely pub fayre food. We will all return in the warmer months to take advantage of the outdoor seating and views. And no doubt the basket meals again!
We only went in for lunch, so wasn't staying at the hotel. The staff were very welcoming. Terri our waitress was attentive, friendly and competent. The food was delicious, we had prawn cocktail and Stilton mushrooms to start both were delicious and fresh, then we had cheese and onion pie and cajan salmon I had the salmon which was excellent and my friend said the same about the cheese pie. The pub has been renovated well without losing its charm. Will definitely go back.
We stayed in one of the cottages, from start to end of our stay it was perfection. Beautiful views with the river lune running beside the Pub. The pub is such a wonderful place to eat and drink. The restaurant upstairs is very stylish and with some great historical pieces perfectly placed in the restaurant. Down stair is for me amazing, I love historical building and this is one of the best Pubs and restaurants I've been to. Staff are very attentive, very welcoming and light hearted. They all look very smart, will do anything or try and answer a question you may have. When you have a great place like the Golden Ball is, having these amazing staff on board, will help grow such a wonderful place. Thank you.
A lovely old world charming character pub and good modern restaurant,it has unrivalled views across the river lune . Friendly staff. Make you welcome ample car parking huge outdoor area weather permitting. At certain times of the month the river can cover the road to it . It can be quite spectacular to see the river lapping at the front of this old traditional pub . It's very child and dog friendly often has a big log burner glowing down in the restored beautifully original part . Well worth a drive .
They have done a good job with the bar and the Cross Bay ales are kept in good condition. Staff attentive and friendly. Disappointed with burger meal though. Although chips were good burger was reconstituted meat and not in house ground beef burgers. I expected better.Service: 4/5
Where do I begin... Really great food, with massive portions, such great value for money. You get what you pay for and it was most definitely worth it! The views are stunning & the service was great, all staff were friendly, they even let me sample some of the wines and beer before buying, so I'd know I liked it. I even stayed for a dessert, again it was amazing They also have a fantastic selection of gins and gave me great advice on what best matched each different gin. Couldn't recommend this place more - if in doubt, don't be, seriously get yourself there you won't regret it!
Dropped into the restaurant last September for lunch. Great value for money. Excellent, friendly, helpful staff. Food was lovely, hot, and plenty of it... Since then my wife and I have been for our lunch another 6 times which says alot for the Golden Ball as we travel from Blackburn which is just short of an hours drive away. Food & drinks: The chef will ensure that if you wish to tweek the menu ie change chips for boiled potatoes or brown instead of white bread that will happen.
Can't comment on the rooms but I came here for Sunday dinner with my family. Staff were rude and were acting like children- turns out that the manager also acted in this manner as was unhelpful and sarcastic. Food was disgusting- my chicken dinner was half a dried up chicken with all the bones! and by the time I cut it up the rest of my dinner was cold. We also got given a tiny plate of veg to share- we ended up with 2 potato's each. Asked for the dessert menu but got ignored and the staff continued gossiping in the corner..
