Glentrool Camping And Caravan Site

About

The only caravan & campsite in the Galloway Forest & Dark Sky Park with tent & touring pitches & statics for hire. The ideal expedition base camp!

Story

Glentrool Camping and Caravan Site is a quiet camp site, situated within south-west Scotland's Galloway Forest Park – with more than 1 million trees and 300 square miles of rugged, breathtaking landscapes and home to a wide variety of wildlife, this is the area's perfect expedition base camp.
A Scottish Tourist Board Four Star Caravan Park, Glentrool Holiday Park has 14 hard-standing pitches for caravans and motor homes, all with electricity available, tent pitches, a small shop on site and shower block facilities. All facilities are new for the 2014 season.
There are also self-catering holiday caravans available to hire – perfect for family holiday breaks.
Close by is the coast-to-coast Southern Upland Way which passes close to Glentrool Holiday Park, making it an ideal stop-over for those taking the walk from Portpatrick to Eyemouth. ; the spectacular Loch Trool; the RSPB Wood of Cree Nature Reserve and two of the world-renowned 7Stanes Mountain Biking Trails, make Glentrool Holiday Park the perfect base camp for your expeditions into the great outdoors! There's also some tremendous hillwalking in the Galloway Hills with the highest peak (The Merrick) standing at 2,766ft.
The Galloway Forest Park also has 250 lochs and covers an area of 300 square miles. We are around 9 miles north of Newton Stewart which is 51 miles from Dumfries in the east and 25 miles from Stranraer in the west, only a short drive from the Cairnryan / Belfast ferry route. Despite lying within of one of Scotland's great wilderness areas, Glentrool Holiday Park in the Galloway Forest Park is just over two hours' drive from the M6 / M74 on the Border between England and Scotland.
The Galloway Forest Park has some of Scotland’s most amazing wildlife – but without the long drive north including Red Squirrels, Otter, Pine Marten, Black Grouse, Golden Eagles, Red Deer and even Nightjar.
There is also a great pub and restaurant just a few minutes walk from us.

Perfect campsite for those who love getting away from crowds and getting back to nature. Superb facilities and super friendly service. Beautifully looked after by the owners who take massive pride in what they have created. Toilets and showers are spotless. Motor home facilities include everything you would expect. Situated in one of Scotland best kept secret parks, The Galloway Forest with spectacular walks and cycling. Close to a Pub with good food.

Lovely site. Fantastic toilets/showers all very clean neat and tidy, very pleasant owners and a beautiful place. Looking up at night was breathtaking!

Nice spot to pitch a tent. Lots of space. They do limit the amount of tents. Nice when you have a spot, not so nice when you still look for space to pitch your tent. Got some good advice for hikes in the area, unfortunately the weather was not really playing along.

Lovely camping ground, very well maintained. The facilities were very clean, there was even a radio playing in the shower! There is a little cabin where we sat when it rained, with a microwave and fridge/freezer for guests. The staff were very helpful, and the site was very quiet at night.

One of the top five campsites I've ever been to. I love the addition of playing radio 2 in the shower block. I can't think of any improvements and the local scenery is stunning. A ride around loch tool is a must. Would definitely visit again.
