We had a fantastic time visiting this hidden gem of a museum. So many weird and wonderful things to see. You’d need several visits to see everything on display. The staff volunteers were so lovely and welcoming. Highly recommend and will definitely be back the next time we stay in Newton Stewart.
Such an interesting place, it really is a window to all of the different periods. The war, childhood, farming, household goods, medicine and so much more. The volunteers are so lovely and informative, definitely give yourself a couple of hours to look around this museum set in a church building. Also some very historical papers in the upstairs room.nWould educate alot of school children on how things used to be in their area.
A great place to spend a couple of hours.nWell signed off the High Street.nWalk into the reused old church and open a Pandora's box of historical artifacts covering hundreds of years.nFor the price of a beer£3 you can compare all the tools of workmen past. Military memorabilia some local and some from as far away as the Crimean war. Household paraphernalia, local photographs . Medical instruments, children's toys the list is endless.nnA friendly welcome from knowledgeable volunteers.nWell done. Its a treasure.
We considered the £3 entry fee well worth it, for access to one of the best but weirdest little town museum that we have ever visited.nBased around donations from local people, it has an eclectic mix of exhibits, ranging from stone age hand axes through to late 20th century memorabilia. There is so much here that it is difficult to see it all, even though it is arranged into vaguely organised categories.nHighlights were the agricultural and blacksmithing implements, the toys and the truly creepy funeral and mourning clothes.
Nice collection of old farm implements. Building old church not open at time of visit unfortunately.
