As a wheelchair user, I was reliant on the lift up to our room. Coming down to breakfast, the lift was out of action. Shout out to the two young lads who carried me down and awkward staircase, they were brilliant, I'm no lightweight ! Sorry I didn't get their names. Turned out, only a minor issue with lift. It won't put us off returning .
I am very disappointed with how my complaint was handled. The issue involved my son and the conduct of staff, yet I received only a generic response from head office. There was no direct apology, no contact from the pub or area manager and no reassurance about what actually happened or how it would be prevented in future. For a company of this size, and given that a child was involved, I expected a more personal and accountable response rather than a standard corporate template.
We accidentally got the biggest room, at the top of the building as it was the only one left.nIt's an interesting climb of 40-odd stairs, in a building that's been regularly modified over hundreds of years.nThe room was large, with a small secondary glazed window. Lots of original oak beams around the room and in the roof. There was quite a lot of noise in the late evening from people leaving pubs, and traffic, and you can hear the nearby church clock chiming all the quarters and hours.nIt didn't bother us, but you might want to use ear plugs if you're a light sleeper.nBed was large, warm and comfortable and pillows were excellent. Very clean bathroom and excellent water pressure for a shower.nAt 9 on a Sunday morning the Wetherspoons pub downstairs was almost full for breakfast.nDefinitely good value, and very good location. There's limited parking for guests behind the hotel, although we didn't use it.
Went in for breakfast on Sunday morning. Computer systems was down which is fine. But I ordered and paid for breakfast. Waited for about 15 minutes, got up to go to the loo, when I got back someone else took my table.nInformed the staff that ive moved and they said quite unwillingly that they'll look into it, never even bothered getting back to me.nLong story short - after waiting more than an hour I called it a day and went somewhere else.
Most weeks we pop in for a quick and cheap bite to eat. Two friends ordered katsu chicken curry and I had sticky Korean chicken balls. Normally food is OK but this week was awful. The katsu curries were awful and could not be eaten, and my Korean chicken was a mix of chicken nuggets and southern fried chicken strips, with rice and a sauce. Staff were not really interested and said this is how the food should be!nWon't be going back in a hurry!
