Great place, great prices, clean room. Tea coffee etc in room. Bed a bit firm if I really must be picky. Also we had a front room which meant it was very light due to outside lighting. Other than that, excellent. Especially thanks to cheerful staff and great service. Def would stay again
What's not to like with a decent sized Wetherspoons? Always bustling from breakfast to late, yet the staff work hard fetching and carrying. The app is easy to use for food, drinks or both.nnWe stayed over for a second time. Being an older, historic building some rooms can be on the smaller size but this time the room we had was well sized with a large bathroom.nnTea, coffee and biscuits are a treat after a long journey but we quickly got the lift down to the bar for a pint of Jaipur ale.nnFor what you pay, at a time of rising prices, The George is hard to beat.
We popped in for a drink and then returned later for a meal.nThe food was of a higher quality than you expect for a Wetherspoons- hot and clearly made fresh!nWhat stood out for me was that the bar manager really cared and lead by example here- even when it came to clearing tables.nThe wind blew some napkins from a plate and instead of leaving it as he was carrying a stack of dishes he put the dishes down to chase the flyaway napkin!nCan’t comment on the rooms as we didn’t stay there!
We went for a meal on a weekday during the half-term. We had just arrived in the area. The pub was very busy as it was dinner time, but we were able to find a couple of tables close together as there were 7 of us. The food didn't take long, and everyone enjoyed what they had ordered. One of the children in our group ordered the fish and chips, and I was envious it looked lovely with a nice big bit of fish. I didn't get a chance to get a photo of the food as we were all starving, and everyone tucked in straight away.nThe pub has loads of character. If we are ever in the area again, we will definitely go back.
As usual good food at very reasonable price.nGreat service as food came within 10 mins of ordering.nDownside is the toilets.nAs with many wetherspoons they are upstairs not good if you are disabled or like me, have painful knee joints.
