Fantastic lunch with great service. Good reasonable selection of wines plus great Bib Gourmand offer, though we had the normal menu. We had booked the terrace but they contacted us a few days before to move us indoors because of the typical British weather! I can see why it has its reputation! And yes, we did have THREE deserts!! Food: 5/5
The food and service were outstanding. I was honestly impressed from the moment we walked though the door to the moment we left. Every member of staff was friendly and greeted us with a smile. Even the younger members of staff were extremely knowledgeable about the food and beverage menus. The food was perfect, extremely well cooked and seasoned with a perfect balance of flavours on every dish. We will certainly be returning. Parking: Large open parking lot Dietary restrictions: Large menu with plenty of options for all requirements.
The starters were very good, the duck though it was the thinnest piece I've ever seen was tasty, and the Scot Egg was also very nice. The main course was a bit disappointing, both of our dishes were under seasoned, cooked well but very bland. The desserts and cheese board were very good. It was a quiet night, so there wasn't much atmosphere. The waitress was attentive, but the main course was a letdown. I'm not sure I would pay £160 including 12.5% service charge, and return again.
We've literally just come back from an evening meal and we're still discussing how good our dinner was! The atmosphere was wonderful and the food was delicious. Compliments to the staff in all areas from the bar to the waiting staff and the chefs. I could eat it all over again, I left with a satisfied stomach but my taste buds want more which is how every meal should be.
We really enjoyed our visit. The food was very good and so was the service. We mentioned it was a little warm inside, and the hostess immediately agreed with us and turned on the aircon. Very sweet.Food: 4/5
Came here the night before my wedding with my Bridesmaids. Food was delicious and they made me feel special with free champagne and a congratulations plate at the end. Really lovely touch! Welcoming environment, lovely staff and great food. We were the first dinner sitting as we were booked for 6pm, so was very quiet when we arrived, but the atmosphere quickly built up as the time went on. Good to see on a Thursday night. Only shortfall really was the length of time it took to get hold of the bill at the end. Overall very nice place, wonderful food, and great staff who are very friendly. Thank you Galvin for giving me a lovely last dinner as a Miss! Will definitely be coming back. Vegetarian options: I had the mushroom soup starter and it was delicious
First class welcoming and attentive staff. Great green surroundings. Of course great variety of dishes. Gems of Chelmsford. Always surprise me with new dishes. Love the Suffolk Chicken.
Came for Sunday roast a few weeks back. Two courses for £32 is a steal in this current day and age. Mocktails are delicious and actually have flavour and depth and the nibbles to start are delicious. Our party had the roast beef, a nut roast and a fish dish. All very hearty dishes and the best nut roast I’ve had in a long time. Really appreciated the nut roast being mixed with stuffing as I was afraid I would miss out on that classic. The only thing I would improve is that the yorkshire puddings were a bit over cooked/crispy to my liking but that could just be personal preference. We also got a cauliflower to share between 3 which was a great size considering we were already stuffed. We all had the basque cheesecake with rhubarb for dessert which was delicious. Book in advance if you want a table as it books up very quickly but the restaurant won’t feel too crowded due to how they have it spaced. I can’t remember the name of our waiters/waitresses but they were fabulous and incredibly patient with my elderly, picky grandmother. We visit 3 to 4 times a year from London and will continue to return!
Food had been good before COVID, but I literally cut off at least 2oz fat from the edge of my sirloin. Happy to pay London prices even though this is provincial on the odd occasion, and I always tip on merit, but to add a 13% service charge, when it doesn't say that on the menu is extortion by stealth. They should be honest if they need to raise dish prices, not try and claw it back by stealth and lack of transparency. Menu lacking in choice, and some of it so pretentiously named, we had to Google several items. What's the point!
We loved our experience of eating at the Green Man, celebrating my husband's birthday. We were looked after beautifully with kindness and good humour from the moment we walked in. Delicious pre-dinner cocktails served by friendly bar staff. I was heavily pregnant at the time, and staff were very accommodating and well-informed about what I could and couldn't eat. The food was absolutely amazing, every course prepared with care and style. The whole experience was of a different class, it made for a really special evening. Highly recommended; we hope to be back.
