Enterprise at Gatwick is brilliantly convenient, its just a 2-minute walk from the South Terminal to the main car rental building where all the rental providers are based.nnI’ve hired from here about 5 times now, always super quick, friendly service, and never had an issue with the cars. Returns are really easy too: just park outside their small kiosk in the parking lot, someone will come and meet you and do a check. [edit]nI spoke to claims and the confusion/situation has been resolved without any issue. I will continue to use Enterprise as I believe this was only a small glitch and the staff are helpful and very pleasant. I have revised my star rating from 1 to 4.nnI have rented vehicles from Enterprise several times both in the UK and Spain. They have always given me a first class service until now.nOn this occasion I was given an old Ford Focus with over 30k miles instead of a Corsa that I had pre booked online. This is not the first time, apparently smaller cars are more popular so they are in limited supply.nThe vehicle was okay, a small amount of body damage to be expected on a rental car but what I couldn't see was a loose lower engine cover underneath that would occasionally make a knocking noise.nI was concerned about this in case it caused any damage to the vehicle so took it to the Eastbourne Enterprise outlet in the morning when they opened for advice. They said they would prefer to swap the vehicle and asked me to continue using it and return in a few days as they did not have a replacement at that time which I did. They assured me there would be no implication or any charges. They provided me with an even bigger gas guzzling Mazda CX5 with 40k miles. Again not a problem I only needed it for a few days.nTook it back to Gatwick as instructed outside their operating hours then later in the day I have a charge on my bank for over £2500 for simply following their instructions.nI will be taking this further and have informed my bank of fraudulently making a charge on my card without my consent.nI am very disappointed with my treatment considering I was trying to take due care of their vehicle.
Update: sending a standard response saying to contact enterprise through chat listed in your response is USELESS if all they can not look up or discuss anything about the situation and all they can say is send an email to [email protected]. List that in your response instead. For others, recommend you don’t waste time & skip to sending the email.n—————————-nWish we would have taken a closer look at the reviews before renting from enterprise. Highly recommend you take photos of EVERYTHING before you drive off the lot!nnGatwick Rental agreement: 1683396294nGatwick Confirmation Nbr:9SPMZMn24sep-27sepnnWe took photos of every scratch on the paintwork, but failed to take photos of the tires because the pickup agent Rachel told us they’re not concerned about tire rims, only if there is damage to the rubber tires and made no mention that we should do a detailed inspection of the rubber at the time senior agent we were told on car drop off. None of us, including Rachel took a super detailed look at the rubber of the tires, and there were no glaringly obvious issues noticed when we walked around the car. We did not take the extra insurance upsell. Upon arrival to return the car, it was surprising to see the agent bend down on her knees and inspect every tire for any tiny imperfection - we are devastated that we listened to Rachel picking up the car and didn’t take the 4 tire photos for our collection of SEVEN others that we took of the damaged paintwork!nnFirst, the return agent pointed out a scratch on the bumper - boom, our photo proved incredibly valuable or surely we’d be paying for that as well photo 1. Then she began her extremely detailed review of each tire - so detailed that I remarked to my husband how odd to be kneeling at each tire and spending so much time like she was trying so hard to find any issues they could charge for. Unfortunately, as we had no photos of the tires, the scrupulous agent informed us 2 claims are being filed and we await our fate to be charged for them to replace their tires at our expense. I’ll update the review later with the amount they charge us. Speaking to the manager Sean is a waste of time, so don’t bother.nnHonestly, the alloys were so scratched up at the rental pickup I’m not sure how they can confidently claim it was us. Likewise, I’m not sure how we were so stupid not to take photos of them just incase we needed them even though Rachel assured us it wasn’t really necessary. We’re 100% confident we hit no curbs during our rental and it’s a pretty solid bet they inspect the tires only for those who did not take the upsell coverage insurance. However, no photo = no proof = charged to replace without their upsell insurance policy = PUNISHMENT / SCAM for anyone who does not take their insurance and fails to photo every aspect of the car.nnWe travel a lot and have never had any issues with rentals. Take this warning to avoid a very expensive lesson for your future rentals. Highly recommend you spend an enormous amount of time photographing every aspect of the vehicle at enterprise vehicle pickup or pay the upsell car insurance for per day for full coverage which was more than the daily rental fee.
I have to say, I have never had anything but a great experience when hiring a car through Enterprise but my experience with the Gatwick branch tops the list. Very happy overall and look forward to using them again when I’m in London again later in the year. LOVED my car and felt sad returning it lol
Really liked my car and team that looked after me too from start to finish from car collection to car return. My only regret was that I should have had all of my hired cars from Enterprise in the past but I'm sure I will rent my next car from Enterprise in the not too distant future. Thank you Team Enterprise for handing everything and keeping me informed of every step with ample time to react to changes.
