Such a gorgeous theatre and talented singers and orchestra but hated this dystopian version of The Magic Flute. OK, it highlighted the Masonic aspects of the story but lost all sense of magic in the process. Too many black costumes against a black backdrop. Surely Mozart would not have intended this? It just didn't match up to the luscious music and singing which made us almost forget the lack of legroom in the Upper Circle
Wonderful venue, stunning decor and architecture. Saw the opera 'Blue' which was outstanding. Very powerful. Excellent performances by all nine performers. Seats were in the dress circle, front row but had a good view of the stage. Hope to see something else there in the future.
Beautiful place the decor is amazing! We went to see Its a wonderful life, which was a lovely Christmas treat. We are under 35 so got cheap tickets, but good seats. We were in dress circle row E seat 41 and 42, and had a great view. They have subtitles above the stage so you understand the opera. Their staging is really intelligent and creative. The performances were really impressive and beautiful to listen to.
Beautiful place, efficient and helpful staff, and immaculately well looked after venue. Some of the balcony seats have restricted view, you just wouldn't be able to read the subtitles. Luckily when I went it was half empty, but had I had to sit on one of those seats, I wouldn't've stayed more than two minutes.
Went to watch Lá Traviata and had a splendid time. A great show with a superbly talented cast, excellent orchestra and a plot to match. Great seat and well worth my £1 ticket courtesy of being u21 haha.
I went to see The turn of the Screw. Unfortunately, I did not like this production. I would expect some special effects and spooky feel. It was none of them. Scenery and the actions were boring.
Beautiful theatre in the heart of Covent Garden, next to Portrait Gallery and Trafalgar Square. Great opera singers, you don't need to spend a fortune, you can get tickets for less than £15 with a decent view. Truly recommended!
We saw a wonderful production of the ENO and I was pleasantly surprised about everything that they are doing to entice people, especially young people, to come to the opera. Under 21s go free under 15s accompanied by an adult! I will definitely be taking advantage of that for my 13 year old son.
Recently attended the dress rehearsal for the Gilbert and Sullivan operetta "Iolanthe". Excellent production bringing to life the wit and whimsy of G+S. In the last few years, ENO has presented productions of The Pirates of Penzance, The Mikado, and HMS Pinafore. I don't know another major opera company bringing these gems to life with the same regularity as the ENO. I hope the UK government will recognise the importance of the ENO mission and continue to fund it. It is a national treasure.
4 stars based on the accessibility for a lady in the audience with crutches. A prestigious venue should have disability staff awareness and access with in the theatre hall. A stunning visit to the ballet on the opening night of Anastasia, breathtaking lighting and sublime minimalist costume. Executed to perfection with the best in the world.
