A lovely traditional theatre. Smaller than others, but a good view guaranteed! The outside balcony is a nice touch. My only criticism was the price of a cocktail - £19 is extortionate for a small glass. The prices weren’t listed, very grateful that the waiter told me when I went to order - seems crafty on the theatre’s part. ‘Why am I so single?’ was a hilarious, uplifting yet emotional musical. Thoroughly recommend!
“Why am I so single” had it all. It was hilarious and emotional. The cast were incredible, so well cast. The show will have you laugh it’ll have you cry. Wonderful night of entertainment. Songs that will stick in your head for weeks to come. It’s filled with musical and pop culture references. Absolutely fabulous. Our seats were G5&6.
Awesome intimate theater. I had floor seats, and from my perspective, you really couldn't have too bad of a seat anywhere in the house. Went to see "For Colored Boys..." and it was amazing. You had to take stairs down for floor seats. There is a balcony section. Snacks and adult beverages non alcoholic too are served in the venue. They had programs and scripts available for purchase. Digital sales only when I went.
What a lovely old theatre. Its quite small compared to many of the other London theatres but maybe that makes the view from most of the seats better ? Nice little bar areas and the toilets, whilst small were very clean. All the staff were very friendly and helpful.
I got a seat with ‘restricted view’, which was notably cheaper. Only the far left of stage was not visible, which was an issue for a portion of 1-2 scenes worth the cheaper price in my opinion, very much still enjoyed the show and atmos overall, plus extra leg room. Saw Why Am I So Single which was an absolute laugh.
Good West end theatre. Modern and comfortable seats. Bars and toilet facilities. Easy access near Leicester sq or Trafalgar sq/Strand.
Really lovely theatre. Very traditional interiors and seating although chairs themselves were a decent width and I was comfortable throughout performance. There isn’t a grand lobby entrance but there is ample standing room in the stalls to stand during intermission. I watched Boys from the Blackstuff and there was a video backdrop, a 2-storey set with moving parts, actors being lifted by wires, and great lighting throughout. My one comment is occasionally there is a rumble potentially a train going by underground that is audible in the theatre, it’s not terribly disruptive just a funny feature of this underground theatre I guess!
Attended a showing of "For Black Boys Who Have Considered Suicide When the Hue Gets Too Heavy" at Garrick Theatre with a group of six. Unfortunately, the seating and venue layout proved to be challenging, as we found ourselves straining to see and fully grasp the performance. While the production itself was captivating, the seating arrangement left much to be desired, making me hesitant to return for future shows. Additionally, parking proved to be a hassle, requiring preparation for a slightly more distant spot.
The historical Garrick Theatre has hosted many of the world's greatest plays and is a beautifully maintained old lady. The plush seating and glittering golden goddesses and cherubs that bedeck most surfaces hint at the opulent past times and creat an atmospheric environment for modern and traditional productions alike.
For Black Boys......... What an outstanding show. Well cast, well produced and well performed. So thought provoking. It laid bare what goes unsaid, bias, inequity, stereotypes, pain, vulnerabilities and much more. I was so excited to be able to purchase the script because there was so much narrative to digest. I know I missed some and wanted time to reflect on the more poignant parts. Only a few days left to see this. A version of this for schools would be amazing.
