Electric House

Story

The Electric Cinema is a movie theatre in Notting Hill, London, and is one of the oldest working cinemas in the country.HistoryThe Electric Cinema first opened in London's Portobello Road on 24 February 1910 and was one of the first buildings in Britain to be designed specifically for motion picture exhibition. It was built shortly after its namesake the Electric Cinema in Birmingham, which predates it by around two months. The cinema was soon eclipsed by the huge picture palaces that became fashionable during the 1930s but, despite being shuttered for brief periods, it has remained in almost continual use until the present day.Designed by architect Gerald Seymour Valentin in the Edwardian Baroque style, it originally opened as the Electric Cinema Theatre. During World War I an angry mob attacked the Electric, believing that its German-born manager was signalling to Zeppelin raiders from the roof, after nearby Arundel Gardens was hit by a bomb dropped from a Zeppelin.Later, in 1932, the Electric became the Imperial Playhouse cinema, though by this time the Portobello Road area had become rather run down, along with the rest of Notting Hill.

"Attached to Electric Cinema, one of the oldest screening spaces in London, Electric House on Notting Hill's Portobello Road has spaces to eat, drink, work and relax."

Love the Cinema and the ambiance, I would have given a 5 if it were not for the constant staff going up and down our row delivering food to people, there should be a rule get your food efore the movie starts. I have a painful knee condition, having to change my knee position everything someone passed me was painful and annoying.
Yummy fruit salad. Good scrambled eggs etc but pancake much too thick and stodgy. Otherwise great.
Went there for a celebration and we were not disappointed. The food was excellent, so was the atmosphere and the staff. We got a wide selection of plates and all of them were well balanced and reasonably sized as portions. My only criticisms are that the round tables don't have comfortable legroom due to the central table leg and that at some point the lights were dimmed a bit too much, so we could not clearly see what we were eating.
Was a quick lunch bc we didn't have any booking table, but everything was nice the waiters are all very professional, as a gluten intellerant, everyone was so helpful, even the manager she made sure that my dish were without contamination, she very discrided so riassure me, without telling me, I just watched as always do when they were preparing my plate, how carefully they were 2 not contaminated with wheat crambol, well done
Great space to meet and work. Had slight confusion as were told not possible to book a table over the phone and then upon arrival were asked whether we made a booking?! Nevertheless we were seated and had a pleasant time. Lovely and clean and staff are friendly and attentive
Nice place, good vibes, fairly good food and service.
Great venue ...awesome loos! Michelin ranked, reasonable prices and a great crowd
Not everything available on already fairly limited menu. Not the best Soho House venue.
Great atmosphere, good service but unfortunately food quality really bad. I’ve been there 2 years ago it was ok but last experience was terrible. I had salmon with spinach very plain, spinach taste was strange. My bf had chicken salad they didn’t bother put any olive oil any salad dressing. I hope you can make better food in that such a lovely place!
Great food and fun vibe. Lovely coffee too Members only upstairs
