Been a regular eater here for years and it never disappoints. Stopped for a pre Christmas meal with friends, we all felt the food had gone up another notch! Had the ragu which was on point. Only niggle was it seemed a little short on staff so drinks and water took ages. Great local vibe and super friendly. Also worth a visit in the summer as the views are mega.
We've found our new favourite place to eat! We called ahead on a Monday evening to see if they could accommodate four adults, a baby and two dogs. When we arrived we were shown to our table and drinks promptly arrived. My wife cannot currently have dairy, soya and egg and eating out lately has been a bit tricky. Our waitress went to speak to the chef and returned with the menu, with ticks and amendments so we could clearly see what she could have this included making a soup from scratch, and meant that she could choose from about 80% of the menu. We were very grateful that they were so accommodating. Service throughout the evening was attentive and friendly. The food was fab! Some excellently constructed, balanced and flavourful dishes on the Al a carte and some firm favourites on the 'Pub Classics' menu. We are already planning our return visit and we will be recommending The Dumb Post to anyone that asks.
First time for me visiting the Dumb Post Inn. Had a bit if a shock when I saw the cobbled stones out front and no wheelchair friendly way to get to the entrance except over the grass which was firm - but in winter that might not be an option - and then trying to go with the line of the cobbles a short distance to the door. Not an ideal start but the warm welcome helped negate that first impression. Fabulous views but again sadly, we had to sit inside as no way down for a wheelchair to what looked like great terrace. It was a glorious day yesterday and that would have made it a five star review. The staff were very good indeed, helpful, patient and kind. Apparently the Inn is a listed building so theur ability to make alterations limited. In this day and age though I'm sure accessibility for all would be considered equally important by Planning. The menu was not the one I'd seen online but it still had enough for my Dad and I to happily choose from. The calamari was well cooked - makes a nice change as often it can be rubbery at other venues. This was perfect. The wild mushrooms were OK, personally I would have liked some garlic with them and the bread a little less grilled/burnt but that's just me. The medium rare steak was cooked perfectly and the skinny fries with skins delicious too. Definitely recommend the Dumb Post Inn but next time I'll go back with able bodied companions who can manage the steps to the terrace, or in winter when I'm sure the atmosphere inside will be warm and welcoming and assuming it's been cold enough for the grass area to be hard enough for pushing the wheelchair.
Probably the nicest pub we have ever stumbled across. The staff are really nice and engaging and the drinks are good and very reasonable in price. We had been expecting it to be much pricier than it was given the quality of the pub and the accompanying view. Which is also incredible. The food we had today, the mixed roast, was amazing, all five of us demolished our meals and cleaned our plates, portion sizes were perfect, enough to truly fill you up without leaving you bloated. Wonderful food. Wonderful service and a wonderful evening all around.
Lovely place. Family friendly pub in a beautiful setting. The staff are lovely and the food and drink was great. It's not the largest pub but it has plenty of room for a sit down meal or a drink at the bar. The outside area is beautiful with stunning views.
Absolutely loved the Sunday roast but would've really liked another food option. Great service, lovely beer garden too. A gorgeous place in a lovely location. Nice and romantic if you fancy that kind of thing. Beautiful.
Called in for lunch, it has outside parking places and set high up with good views.Plenty of outside seating for when warmer weather comes again. Inside is large with plenty of tables for dining . Menu was good honest pub food and the staff were pleasant and efficient, prices were in line with most village pubs.
Gorgeous dog friendly pub, extremely friendly staff and a cozy atmosphere. Sunday lunch was amazing with nearly exclusively locally produced ingredients. The beef was very tasty and the vegetables were amazing. A real find as we hunted round the Wiltshire countryside. Highly recommended
We had a fantastic night in The Dumb Post Inn. All 11 of us arrived in from London on a Friday night, watched the football and ate dinner. The food was great and very reasonable, everybody cleared their plates. We then stayed for the rest of the night. The bar staff were great, and we had lots of fun making friends with people who live locally, dancing to Robbie Williams and flipping beer mats.
Amazing. The food was to die for, and the home made gravy on the roast dinner was the best I've had in a long time! Beer selection is good and the staff are very friendly and welcoming. Was definitely worth the drive from Melksham and I'm glad my friend recommended I try the place!
