I had a really great experience shopping at Decathlon recently. The staff were friendly and made the whole atmosphere feel really welcoming, which made it easy to relax and actually enjoy browsing.nnWhat stood out the most was how simple and comfortable it was to try things on. The fitting rooms were easy to access, and the setup just made sense and it felt totally natural to grab a few items and see how they fit without any hassle.nnEverything felt well-organized, and the whole process from walking in to walking out with my purchase was quick and easy.
Every time I visit this store I experience the same thing. The shop is quiet with lots of staff, but the staff are either hiding at the back of an aisle in a small huddle with what looks like a staff meeting, or they’re marching across the store with their headset on, or they’re just plainly not interested in you. The shop is basically empty how can anything be more important than the few customers that have come in? You’re made to feel like you’re an inconvenience and they’re busy, important executives. I’ve never once been greeted with a smile! Bizarre customer service in a time when it’s far easier to just shop online.
Absolutely avoid at all costs. I spent £300 on camping gear at this store during the summer. I bought a down sleeping bag which cost £110. At the end of the summer I washed it, carefully following the instructions on the label within the item. Sadly, when the item was finished being laundered, the down had clumped in to balls within the panels of the bag. I took it back to Stockport where an assistant called Orla, told me that I had washed it wrong. That I should have put tennis balls in to the washing machine and tumble dryer with the bag. I asked her to show me where it says that on the label. She couldn’t find that instruction anywhere on the bag, and told me that “everyone knows that”. I asked for the manager. Ben told me the same as Orla, that “everyone knows that you wash down sleeping bags with tennis balls”. I asked him to accompany me to the sleeping bag area to show me where there was instructions about this tennis ball method that perhaps I had missed upon purchasing the product. There was nothing. Nothing on the bag we bought it in, nothing on the pricing label, no signs on the walls. Orla was so rude to me, that I asked her to leave. At which point she became even more rude, shouting “have a nice day” in to my face. Ben had to ask her to leave twice. He then said that “most people know the tennis ball” method of washing. I am so disappointed at the lack of customer care in this place. They are clearly at fault and I will be taking this matter further. When you buy at Decathlon, you have ZERO guarantee of refund if you purchase a faulty product and I would think that other people have been back to store with the same problem as they were extremely quick to explain that I should have known the tennis ball washing method, and it was my fault that the product was destroyed.
Staff i spoke to were so helpful. Clement was very knowledgeable about running shoes and showed me options that matched my needs and didn't try to just direct me to expensive things. He was kind, polite and helpful- he deserves a bonus!nnFYI the store doesn't do full gait analysis, just a foot scan to indicate suitable shoes.
Sandra has been amazing helping me on how to get some clothes items with the new decathlon app. Such a pleasure to deal with so nice customer service. I will definitely come back to this store
