Nice facility offering plenty of activities, gym, swim, fitness classes, tennis , badminton indoor and outdoor pool and tennis courts to a high standard. Relax in the lounge area. Bar food from breakfast to dinner. Sauna and wet rooms with spa treatments. I would recommend a trial period to see if you enjoy the facilities. Friendly staff. Parking on site wish an onsite paid for car wash Check out their prices and speak with a staff member. My only negative is that it can be super busy at peak times and it's almost impossible to access all of the gym equipment and the changing rooms are full including the jacuzzi. For me this was the only negative but otherwise it's a positive experience. Make sure you have the budget to sign up before making a financial commitment.
This place has really gone downhill. At £134 a month for a platinum membership it a an extortionate amount to pay in this cost of living crisis & they will be raising the fees even higher next year. I wouldn’t mind so much if it didn’t always seem to be busy. There is nothing worse than the unruly screaming kids. The jacuzzi in the private spa area hasn’t worked properly for ages. Everything looks a bit dated and run down in the pool and spa area. You never get a reply from customer services because they are all allowed to work from home. I sent no less than ten emails trying to cancel my membership and NO ONE REPLIED. I had to queue for hours to speak to someone on the online chat. They are very quick to request payment though. Not the gym it once was. It’s oversubscribed now and not very relaxing.
I have mixed feelings about this gym, which I've been going to regularly since April. The lounge area is decent except when it's warm because they don't put the aircon on or open doors and the gym is brand new, it's very well equipped and I absolutely love the Blaze classes. But the pool area is extremely run down. Fairly often there are lots of unruly, screaming children bombing into the pool and getting in your way even in the lanes sometimes. The lifeguards don't batter an eyelid. The spa area is very poor too. The jacuzzi is tiny, it's awkward when there is even just one other person in there. Bits of tile are coming off in the steam room. Considering the cost for platinum membership, it's very very bad. I think if they were a little stricter in the pool area and they totally re-did the spa it would make a big difference. I think the issue is there is such a lack of competition in the area. People are still paying for it so why bother!
I am just so happy to be a member at this club, as it perfectly suits my needs. There is a great selection of classes as well as a fantastic range of equipment and the club is well-maintained and clean. Also, Sally is just wonderful, a real asset to the club who always makes my time there special!!! Thank you David Lloyd Gidea Park, you are the best!
I love coming to this gym, it’s close and has a range of facilities. However recently I’ve noticed that the ladies shower rooms aren’t clean and some of the showers are not working. In addition I’m quite fed up of people parking outside. It makes it so difficult to drive as you cannot see who is coming around the corner. Staff have said they would issue fines but nothing seems to be done about it.
I’ve been trying to illicit a response from David Lloyd since end of August/September. The facilities I only use the pool area are disgusting. There are real problems with hygiene and have just been notified on Thursday, that the pool area will be closed for one month to Boxing Day. I’ve been sending emails and contact through the app, and I have only just received a reply. Unfortunately David Lloyd seem to think that cancellation notice for the membership is from the date they finally answered one email - ie this week and I will have to give 3 months notice, not from my first communication giving them notice to cancel my membership! Unfortunately for me, I paid out almost 1600 in advance for a premium platinum membership- however I haven’t received adequate service. Bitterly disappointed with the whole experience- customer service is pitiful. In response to your comment, I replied to that email on 21/11 and we are now 28/11 without adequate response nor accountability. I had previously used the app and email from September onwards without a response. In my calculations that’s 3 months without replies. You have my contact details - you have the ability to resolve this by refunding the remainder of the membership. I look forward to a speedy resolution.
Very dissatisfied with David Lloyd, their accounts team have made me feel like just a number to them, unwilling or unable to hear my concerns and show empathy, only replying "its in the contract" - with no attempt make amends for me being misled. I was misled on how to cancel my contract by the Reception team unknowingly on their part, I'm sure, and have now been told by the Accounts team that I have to pay for an additional month in Sept £149. I have been reminded by them that my 3 month contract says to give a months notice, but when I asked reception how to cancel, I was told as long as I cancel by August 20th, I won't be charged for September false. You shouldn't just ignore that your staff misled me and default to the contract. I'm not a corporation, I'm a person. Times are harder for us all, and so this now just feels like you're stealing my money albeit, contractually
The worst gym for customer service, have been a member for 5 years and is no longer what it was compared to when you start. No one ever calls you back if you need to discuss your membership there is never anyone from the memberships to talk to at the club. Has gone so so down hill would never recommend. Shame on David Llyod that’s about to loose so many customers due to poor service.
Where do I start. First things first it’s not worth a fraction of its £149pm platinum membership. I joined at a different club and use whatever is near where I’m working that week as I work all over. In December DL gidea park took over my membership from my home club without consulting me, or my authorisation and automatically charged me £149 without warning me or giving me a option. Then when you try to talk to someone it takes weeks for them to reply to a email. They don’t even ring you back. In the last 4 months 7 vans was broken into outside the front of the centre. Cars park in the van only spaces. They don’t turn on the street lights running from the street to the entrance so it makes it very dark and dangerous at night also promoting break ins to parked vehicles outside the front. Lockers getting broken into. I personally witnessed a Range Rover getting stolen in Broad daylight and staff wasn’t very helpful to the poor women. Toilets are hit and miss if they will be useable. Good points. Gym is well equipped and very pleasant to use. Spa area is good when used correctly. Swimming pools are good. Never used the tennis courts so can’t comment on them. I hear the classes are really good. Because of the very poor customer service response I wouldn’t waste £149 to be a member here. Rather use cheaper gyms with a few less features but are more secure and better customer service. Maybe if they offered a cheaper membership without tennis access and improved the security / customer service I may consider a membership here. I’d say at present £80pm is a realistic amount for membership of this venue. I’ve used 6 other David Lloyd clubs in 2022 and the others was good. Gidea Park is badly overpriced and has too many security issues.
I've been a member here for at least 4 years and the club has really gone downhill. Dirty, unhygienic tiles and fixtures in the spa area. Zero customer service. Discussion that leads to zero result as they really don’t want to improve their service but can increase the fee without informing.
